A mini flood is causing problems for area businesses and commuters this morning:
A water main break in Winston-Salem on Tuesday still has
Silas Creek Parkway closed in both directions at Buchanan Street near Parkway Plaza. Westbound traffic on I-40 should not attempt to exit at Silas Creek Parkway…take the Peters Creek Parkway exit instead. (www.ncdot.gov)

The CDC is warning people to throw away AMO Brand Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Contact Solution. An investigation has linked AMO Brand to a rare but serious eye infection which is caused by a parasite.
The solution may cause a painful eye infection that can lead to permanent vision loss or blindness. There have been 138 confirmed cases.

One Dutch reality show going too far?
A Dutch TV station says it will go ahead with a program in which a terminally ill woman selects one of three patients to receive her kidneys. The 37-year-old donor, identified only as Lisa, will make her choice based on the contestants' history, profile and conversation with their family and friends. Viewers will also be able to send in their advice by text message during the 80-minute show which will air on Friday night. Officials have called for ‘The Big Donor Show’ to be scrapped, but broadcaster BNN says it will highlight the country's shortage of organ donors. The Dutch donor authority has condemned the show. Kidney specialists in the UK saying that the show concept is “ethically totally unacceptable."

A Georgia man with a rare and dangerous form of tuberculosis is now in Federal Quarantine may have spread the disease to passengers and crew on two trans-Atlantic flights earlier this month. You may be wondering…Which Flights?The patient flew from Atlanta to Paris on May 12, arriving on May 13, on Air France flight 385. He returned to North America on May 24, on Czech Air flight 104, from Prague to Montreal. (www.cdc.gov)

Josiah Wright (a 12 year old homeschooler from Ashe County) will be competing today in the first round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC.
285 spellers will be competing.
Josiah won the Winston-Salem Journal Regional Spelling Bee in March.
He correctly spelled the word philately ( which means the collection and study of postage stamps). Looking ahead…Josiah wants to “marry someone who is as interested in spelling as I am. When I’m older,” he said. “I mean, way older.”
The First two Rounds of the National Spelling Bee is going on this morning.
Quarterfinals this afternoon.

The mother humpback Whale and her calf have entered San Francisco Bay…and heading back to the Pacific Ocean. Tuesday evening, the whales were spotted swimming about 10 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge. The whale and her calf were spotted in the River May 13 and got as far as 90 miles inland to the Port of Sacramento before turning around. (CNN)
