The House voted Wednesday to increase the federal minimum wage to $7.25 an hour over the next two years. That’s the first increase in the minimum wage in almost 10 years. (CNN)
Effective immediately: House members in Washington DC will no longer be able to smoke in the ornate Speaker's Lobby off the House floor where lawmakers mingle during votes. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi House made the no smoking announcement on Wednesday. Lawmakers will still be allowed to smoke in their own offices. BTW: Smoking is banned in most federal buildings. (CNN)
Rabies cases in North Carolina increased more than 13% over past year.
Guilford County had the most reported cases of rabies with 37. Public health officials around the state are urging pet owners to vaccinate their animals against rabid animals. (wxii.com)
In April, the DMV will start replacing existing license plates with an updated version. The new standard plates for private automobiles will continue the "First in Flight" design, but will carry red letters and numbers rather than the blue letters and numbers now in use. The oldest plates will be replaced first.The cost of vehicle registration will remain the same. (Journalnow.com)
