For years, most American’s bought their flowers in traditional flower shops. Now, 55% of all flowers sold in the U.S. are purchased in supermarkets.

Most of the flowers sold in the US come from South America…with the country of Colombia providing 80% of all flowers sold in the US.

With all of the other prominent holidays involved in exporting and importing flowers—such as Mother’s Day, Christmas and Easter—the floral industry is vital to job growth. It creates about 180,000 jobs in Colombia and about 225,000 in the US. So go on, buy that bouquet. It’s not just about the romance; it’s about helping the economy…keeping flower workers employed

Up for sale? City officials have approached Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University once again with some proposals on the table.  Wake Forest’s men's and women's basketball teams play at the Joel Coliseum, while WSSU’s football team uses Bowman Gray Stadium. Neither venue has been profitable for the city, which estimates that it loses $850,000 dollars a year in operating expenses. Lee Garrity, Winston-Salem city manager, says that since LJVM opened in 1989, the coliseum has turned a profit only twice. http://www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-story-ljvm-sale-110211,0,1067953.story
