Traveling over the weekend?
Myrtle Beach: Lots of sunshine…Highs in the upper 80s

Tropical Storm Arlene has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. Arlene should NOT be a threat to the US east coast or our coastal beaches.
One Triad entrepreneur has created the world’s first set of bio-degradable beach toys. Valerie Lecoeur is the owner of Zoe B Organic in Winston-Salem. Her bio-degradable beach toys are BPA free and made from corn sugar. And will de-grade in two-to-three years in water, soil and compost. BTW: Non-biodegradable plastics can take hundreds of years to break down. Some parents are wondering if that price is worth it. The bio-degradable beach toy sets cost $19.99. Lecoeur’s bio-degradable beach toys can be purchased at Gazoodles in Winston-Salem or order online: http://www.zoeborganic.com/zoe-b-biodegradable-toys.html
Toll Free Number: (888) 407 7008
FYI: WXII reporting that the toys will be featured on NBC’s "Today Show" next week. http://www.wxii12.com/news/28386043/detail.html#ixzz1QfYLZZHs
If you live in Greensboro, in a home built before 1978, have children and the interior paint job is in bad shape…you could get some help in ridding your home of lead paint. The Department of Housing and Urban Development has given the city a $3 million dollar federal grant to help remove lead from over 200 homes in Greensboro. BetterBuildings is not only taking applications but also making walkthroughs in five city neighborhoods. To find out more information on the program or to see if you qualify you are asked to call (336) 373-2349.
Teachers and administrators with the Winston-Salem / Forsyth County will be exempt from a ‘furlough plan’ approved by the School board last night. Primary reading teachers, teacher assistants and administrative assistants will not receive pay for seven days under the furlough. FYI: State law prohibits local school systems from furloughing full time teachers and assistants.
Hayworth-Miller will soon be breaking ground on its fifth funeral home in the Triad…this time in Lewisville. The 16,000 square foot facility will be built on Shallowford Road near Lewisville Drug Company. Hayworth-Miller is a Family owned business.
Guildford County is in the running for the World's Largest Solar Farm. The project would create 400 jobs during the five-year construction phase and up to 120 permanent jobs. The planned 400-megawatt farm will be capable of providing enough renewable energy to power roughly 32,000 homes. FYI: Guilford is one of seven finalists in the southeast. http://www.natlsolar.com/
The Pebble Beach swimming access, a popular swimming hole in High Rock Lake, has added some safety equipment to try to prevent drownings. There are also signs warning the area has no lifeguards. The swimming spot has had several drownings in the past several years. Safety officers recommend anyone use a flotation device if you are not a strong swimmer.

Your older ‘drop-side’ baby crib is now considered illegal in the US?? Starting today, all baby cribs manufactured or sold in the US must meet new and improved federal safety standards. Drop side cribs can NO longer be sold in retail stores or even sold at yard sales. The ‘new’ baby cribs will not look much different than the older drop-side cribs…except that all four sides of the crib will be fixed (no more drop down sides) to prevent suffocation deaths. Drop-side cribs have been blamed for more than 30 infant deaths since 2000.
FYI: Those who run child care centers with the older drop-side cribs have until the end of the year to comply with new government safety regulations.

‘What’ your pre-schooler watches on TV and ‘when’ they watch it, can make a difference in their sleep. According to a new study, young children that watched age appropriate TV in the morning or afternoon did NOT have problems with their sleep. But when the TV shows contained violence or by watching TV right before bed, young people were more likely to experience sleep problems (even nightmares) and wake up during the night or feeling tired in the morning.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that preschoolers…
-First of all, take the television out of the kid’s bedroom
-watch NO MORE than two hours of television a day.
-Parents should turn OFF the TV at least 60 minutes before kids get tucked in
-Watch TV with your child whenever you can.

North Carolina lawmakers should vote later today on requiring that expectant women get specialized counseling and wait 24 hours before having an abortion. Fox News reporting that the bill would prohibit an abortion unless a woman is provided with state-specified information about the physician at least 24 hours in advance. Women also would get information about the likely stage of development of the unborn child, the medical risks of having an abortion (and giving birth) and the availability of abortion alternatives. FYI: North Carolina is one of 16 states that does NOT require specialized counseling before an abortion. Half the states require a waiting period after counseling.
A strong majority of Americans, especially young Americans, believe having an abortion is wrong. One of the questions from a new Reuters poll (conducted in March for National Public Radio…YES, NPR), asked “Do you personally believe having an abortion is wrong?” Almost 60% of Americans said yes (abortion is wrong), while slightly more than 40% were OK with abortion. The poll also asked whether abortions “should be legal , the responses were less pro-life, with just over 50% of Americans wanting abortions to be legal in ‘most’ or ‘all’ cases. http://www.ncfamily.org/stories/110607s1.html

Attitude maybe? A Salt Lake City man was slapped with a ‘disorderly conduct charge’ after paying his a disputed medical bill...with 2,500 pennies. The Deseret News reporting that Jason West went to a local clinic to pay a disputed (outstanding) $25 dollar medical bill . Jason asking staff members is they accepted CASH…that’s when he dumped 2,500 pennies on the counter…the pennies hit the counter…and the floor. That’s when he demanded that staff count them. Police later issued the 38-year-old disgruntled bill payer a citation for disorderly conduct that carries a fine of $140 dollars or 14,000 pennies. http://www.digtriad.com/news/watercooler/article/178269/176/Man-Cited-After-Paying-Bill-With-2500-Pennies?source=nletter-j%%__AdditionalEmailAttribute1%%
A story heard too often over the past few years…families facing foreclosure. But, a Naples’ couple took matters into their own hands (with the help of a lawyer) after a local Bank of America branch initiated foreclosure proceedings against them. The problem: Warren and Maureen Nyerges paid $165,000 cash for their 2,700 square foot home back in 2009…never took a mortgage out on it. The couple hired an attorney, Todd Allen, to defend them against the wrongful foreclosure. After five months of phone calls and letter writing and getting nowhere with the bank, a judge even siding with the couple…the bank ‘refused’ to pay the couple’s attorney’s fees. The next step in the legal collection process, obtaining an ‘order of foreclosure’ against the bank. Last week, Warren and Maureen along with their attorney arranged for moving trucks to pull up in front of the B of A Naples branch to execute a foreclosure judgment against the bank. Allen stated during an interview with CBS News, sheriff’s deputies were instructed to remove cash from the tellers’ drawers, furniture, computers and other property. Approximately one hour later, the Naples News reports, the bank manager produced a check for $5,772.88 to satisfy Allen’s fees and additional costs. “We apologize to Mr. Nyerges that there was a delay in receiving the funds, ”the bank’s written statement to the Naples News. “The original request went to an outside attorney who is no longer in business.” http://moneyland.time.com/2011/06/06/homeowner-forecloses-on-bank-of-america-yes-you-heard-that-right/#ixzz1OgcFy6vQ
Johnston County Schools is dropping their appeal of a federal judge's order allowing freshman Ariana Lacono to attend class with a nose piercing as long as she remains a member of a religious group that practices body modification. The school’s dress code forbids facial piercings. The teen was repeatedly suspended and then banned from Clayton High School last year for wearing a nose stud. A district judged issued an emergency court order last October allowing her to return to school and wear her nose stud while the litigation was pending. The state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says the resolution is a victory for religious freedom. www.nbc17.com/topics/types/organization/tags/clayton-high-school/

Seven cities include Greensboro, High Point, Jamestown and Archdale will switch to a new water treatment process on July 25. It will take five to eight days for most people to notice the change. Ammonia will be added to the chlorine to create chloramines that don't pass off the obvious chlorine smell or taste. In these cases, chlorine can be removed from water by letting it sit out and boiling it. http://www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-piedmont-to-get-better-tasting-tap-water-in-july-20110606,0,4721956.story
