(Lexington) The East Center Street bridge that crosses Talbert Boulevard is expected to be closed until 4pm this afternoon, crews are repairing a sink hole. The sink hole measures: four feet long, eight feet wide and six feet deep.
The National Hurricane Center predicts that the Atlantic Hurricane Season will be a busy one…with 12 to 18 named storms, six to 10 hurricanes and three to six major hurricanes (which are Category 3 and above).
“Zero tolerance when it comes to animals on airport property” so says airport director Kevin Baker, talking about that black bear that was shot and eventually killed after getting onto a runway at PTI on Tuesday morning. Baker said that tranquilizing the bear was not an option.

Charlotte-based commercial tour bus company ‘Sky Express’ has been shut down after a deadly crash that killed four people in Virginia on Tuesday. Some of the 54 injured passengers had boarded the bus in Greensboro. Sky Express had a history of violations. FAR FEWER PEOPLE DIED AND FEWER PEOPLE WERE LEFT HOMELESS AFTER THAT 7.0 MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE THAT HIT HAITI LAST YEAR. The Haitian government had said that 316-thousand people had lost their lives in the earthquake. A new U.S. government report says the number of deaths actually ranges between 46-thousand and 85-thousand. The report also indicates that many of the people living in tent cities in Haiti did not lose their homes in the earthquake but were already homeless at that time. (RnR)
The Space Shuttle Endeavor is back on earth after making a final touch down this morning around 2:30am. Space shuttle Atlantis has been moved to the launch pad with a scheduled launch sometime in early July. (RnR)
A Charlotte church has been fined $4,000 dollars for excessively trimming its crape myrtles trees. The Charlotte Observer reported the city's (three) decades-old tree ordinance prohibits removing or excessively trimming trees on commercial property or streets. (It does not include private residences). The city fined Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church $100 dollars for every branch…cut excessively. The church can either pay the fine or replace the trees that weren't trimmed properly. Country star Taylor Swift may have had to fight record label bosses to get Christian rock group NEEDTOBREATHE on her North American “Speak Now” tour. NEEDTOBREATHE lead singer Bear Rinehart said in a recent interview,“She (Taylor Swift) just called – she’s a big fan. And even though it didn’t totally make sense for us, we’re probably not what (record label bosses) would have (chosen). Swift really liked the band a lot and made it happen.” BTW: NEEDTOBREATHE, formed in 1999 by two pastor's sons and their two childhood friends. An up-dated state government budget by the Senate in Raleigh could help save some teacher assistant jobs. The Senate is voting on a two-year spending plan that spends about $250 million more for the year starting July 1 than an earlier Senate version did last week. The bill sets aside more money to preserve teaching assistant positions in early grades.
