The Attorneys General office handing down 10 additional subpoenas yesterday to nine more gas stations…including ones in Yadkinville and Statesville…as part of an ongoing investigation into possible price gouging. A fourth baby has died from contaminated infant formula from China. More than 6,200 babies, mostly newborns, remain hospitalized with dozens suffering from kidney failure because of tainted baby formula. None of the tainted milk powder was exported to the US or Europe.

A ‘hard landing’ is being blamed on the death of 7 U.S. soldiers earlier today in southern Iraq. The incident is being investigated.

At least 25 militants with suspected links to al Qaeda have been arrested in connection with the deadly attack on the U.S. Embassy in Yemen. The attack on Wednesday fatally wounded 16 people. None were U.S. diplomats or embassy employees.

State officials in Texas are warning that the 300 people who insisted on staying on Galveston Island are facing health risks. Galveston is lacking sanitation and clean water. Officials are urging everyone still on the island to leave…or be forced off the island.

Wendy Bartlett, a math teacher at Parkland and a 1997 graduate from Wake Forest, will be honored today. Wendy will receive the Marcellus E. Waddill Excellence in Teaching Award. The award is given to Wake Forest alumni each year for going above and beyond in the classroom.
