Governor Perdue has signed the new DNA Sample Testing Changes into Law. The measure directs police starting in February to take DNA samples of suspects charged with a Felony (murder, rape and other serious crimes). The DNA sample will be entered into the state DNA database to determine whether the person may be linked to other crimes. The DNA record will be deleted if the person is acquitted or charges are dismissed.

For the first time in three months, no oil is gushing into the Gulf of Mexico from that blown out oil well. The fix isn't exactly permanent. It's part of an important pressure test. BP says it may continue that test for as long as 48 hours, but it may have to bring it to an end sooner if a problem arises. FYI: Meanwhile, state and local officials around the Gulf warned that the cleanup from the spill could take years. The explosion of the Deepwater Horizon on April 20th claimed the lives of eleven workers. (CNN)

Apple execs have scheduled a press conference this morning about reception problems with the new iPhone 4. The new iPhone's antenna is built into the stainless steel trim that surrounds the phone's frame. Apple sold more than 1.7 million of the devices in just the first three days it was on the market.

THE U.S. SENATE HAS GIVEN FINAL APPROVAL TO A MAJOR OVERHAUL OF THE RULES GOVERNING THE NATION'S FINANCIAL SYSTEM. It's the biggest reform of the financial system regulations since the Great Depression of the 1930s. The U.S. House had already passed the measure and President Obama is expected to sign it within the next few days. The legislation gives the federal government authority to break up struggling large companies whose failures might threaten the national economy.

A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck near the Gaithersburg, Maryland this morning. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the center of the quake was about 20 miles north-west of Washington, DC.

Happy 75th Birthday to…the parking meter. The first parking meter was installed in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on July 16, 1935. Why? According to the Oklahoma Historical Society, city officials were concerned that parked cars -- that sometimes never moved for weeks -- were hurting downtown businesses…and were eager for a solution.
