Traffic Update (Winston-Salem) The University Parkway Bridge over 20th Street is officially back open! The bridge re-opened Friday morning at 9am…a month ahead of schedule.

Workers are preparing to evacuate the area around BP's relief well because Tropical Storm Bonnie. The latest Tropical Storm will move over south Florida and into the eastern Gulf of Mexico over the next 24 hours. Bonnie is not expected to strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall near Louisiana late Saturday night. FYI: Back in 1998, Hurricane Bonnie hit the southern North Carolina Coast, near Wilmington, on August 26, 1998. Bonnie made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane. http://www.weather.com/

Pastor Rick Warren, the founder of Saddleback Church in California, is recovering after an injury to his eye…while gardening. Warren was briefly hospitalized earlier this week after the sap of a firestick plant got into Warren's eyes…when he wiped his brow while gardening. A spokesperson reported that Warren’s eye pain was so excruciating the first 24 hours, he couldn't open his eyes. FYI: Firestick plants secrete a milky white sap that can cause temporary blindness. Warren is also the author of the multimillion-selling book "Purpose Driven Life."

This Saturday afternoon, hundreds of Winston-Salem residents will gather at BB&T Ballpark (where the WS Dash play their home games) and lend their voices to a cause they believe in deeply…bringing a Trader Joe's to Winston-Salem. Organizers plan to record a video this Saturday between 3 and 4pm at the ballpark, featuring as many people as possible singing an original song. BTW: Trader Joe's is an affordable, organic supermarket chain with six stores in North Carolina (including 3 in Charlotte), but none in the Triad. Facebook page: Bring Trader Joe's to Winston-Salem:

SPORTS The winner of last week’s British Open championship Louis Oosthuizen (Louie WHUST- high –zen) from South Africa is NOT wasting his prize money on a new Ferrari or Porsche. Instead, Oosthuizen spent some of his $1.3 million in winnings on a custom-built John Deere tractor. Oosthuizen and his family live on a farm in South Africa. BTW: The 27 year old pro golfer made sure there was enough space on the new tractor for his little daughter Jana to ride with him. www.canada.com/windsorstar/news/sports/story.html?id=7edc2f5b-035b-432f-a1f0-c6933062e9e7
