July was so HOT…(Insert joke here) The National Weather Service saying that July was the second-hottest July on record. Over 2,000 daily temperature records were broken last month. The hottest July on record occurred in 1936. Also…The first seven months of 2006 was the warmest January-July of any year the United States since weather records began in 1895.

Honda Motor Company soon to be flying high in the Triad. Officials with Honda have announced plans to begin mass production of its new Honda-Jet. The company’s new subsidiary Honda Aircraft Company will be based at PTI in Greensboro. (WS JOURNAL)

Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut conceded his primary race to challenger Ned Lamont late last night but indicated he will run in the fall general election as an independent.
In another high profile race: controversial Representative Cynthia McKinney, Democrat of Georgia, lost in a primary runoff to challenger Hank Johnson. You may remember that Miss McKinney had an altercation with Capitol security back in March. (usa radio news)

A new company called BusRadio plans to install radio equipment on Public School buses in Massachusetts. Kids riding to and from school on the buses equipped with Bus Radio will be a ‘captive audience’ to music and commercial ads. BusRadio is scheduled to begin in September. After Massachusetts, BusRadio plans to go nationwide with their program. (American Family Association)

So, have you ever wondered what little Johnny was buying for lunch while at school? Well, parents in some South Carolina schools will soon be able to monitor what their kids are choosing for lunch…via the web.
About three-thousand school systems nationwide are implementing software called LunchBox.Parents will be able to go online and see what their kids are buying for lunch. The folks can also restrict the types of food junior may purchase from the cafeteria lady. District officials say there's more to the software than parental monitoring. The data also helps school officials track inventory, order food and accept applications for subsidized meals. (AP)

More than 24,000 kids in the US were treated for shopping cart-related injuries in 2005. The American Academy of Pediatrics is saying that better designs and stricter government regulation is needed. Most injuries occur when children aren't strapped in and fall while standing in carts. Many injuries result in concussions and could be life-threatening.

North Carolina Highway Patrol is conducting its Operation Summer Heat this week through Sunday in the Triad. The Goal of Operation Summer Heat is to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities by increasing DWI patrols in counties with the highest number of alcohol-related collisions. (NC DOT)
