Heat index values (Heat + Humidity) will ‘feel like’ 105 degrees for several hours this afternoon (between 3 and 6pm).
-Limit any ‘strenuous’ outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day
-If you must be outside: wear loose fitting / light colored clothing…
-Remember to drink lots of water and don’t forget the sunscreen…
-Make sure ‘outdoor’ pets have adequate shade and plenty of water…
-Check on the elderly
- Governor Mike Easley is asking everyone in the state to conserve energy.
Easley has requested thermostats pushed up to 80 degrees in nearly all state buildings.
- Duke Energy is asking its customers to voluntarily conserve power during the late afternoon, when demand for electricity is the greatest.
- Also, many hospitals around the state have reported seeing an increased number of cases of heat-related injuries and illnesses.

Tropical storm warnings for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have been discontinued this morning. Tropical Storm Chris appears much less organized this morning as it passes to the north of Puerto Rico. Winds are down to 45 mph. The forecast track takes Chris north toward Cuba…then possibly toward South Florida.
Chris is the third named storm of the 2006 Atlantic Hurricane Season. (weather.com)
