Even though Bertha is hundreds of miles from the Carolina Coast (with no threat to the mainland of the US), the National Weather Service issuing a High Risk Warning for ‘Rip Currents’ along the North Carolina Coast again today. 40 swimmers were rescued by lifeguards at Carolina Beach because of rough seas over the weekend. The Department of Motor Vehicles closed the High Point and Thomasville license plate offices on Friday, all part of an investigation into alleged questionable activity. 14 cases of Salmonella (from tainted tomatoes or hot peppers) have been confirmed in North Carolina…six in Mecklenburg County, two in Wake County and one in Guilford County. There have been over 1,000 confirmed cases of Salmonella poisoning in 42 states.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST BANKS IN THE US, INDY MAC, IS SET TO REOPEN TODAY, BUT IT WILL BE UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE FDIC. The California-based bank closed its doors Friday. Officials say that depositors who had $100 thousand dollars or less in the bank will be fully insured.
