The Greensboro City Council voting to loosen the rules and allow chickens and bees on small residential lots within the city limits. The memorial service for former Wake Forest University president Thomas Hearn Jr. is set for Friday at 3 p.m. in Wait Chapel on school's campus. Hearn passed away on Monday. He was 71.

LeRoi Moore, the saxophonist and one of the founding members of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday from complications stemming from injuries he sustained in an ATV accident. Moore, 47, died "unexpectedly" at a hospital in Los Angeles, California. The National Park Service is proposing the removal of raccoons from a portion of the Cape Lookout National Seashore to determine if it will help endangered bird and turtle species survive. The park service released a draft environmental assessment this week and is asking the public for comments until Sept. 19. Officials said the removal was an option being considered to help endangered populations.

-On the Balance beam last night: For the USA team…Shawn Johnson won the gold while Nastia Liukin took silver. Nastia will head home to Texas with five medals. One gold (the individual all-around), three silvers (team, uneven bars, beam), one bronze (floor). She tied the U.S. gymnastics record of five Olympic medals at one Games, set by Mary Lou Retton in 1984 and duplicated by Shannon Miller in Barcelona in 1992.
