Officials with the National Weather Service have confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Rowan County on Saturday. That storm moved north and caused damage in parts of Davie County. Local connection to three people killed in massive tornado in Bertie County. Roy and Barbara Lafferty and Barbara's mother, Helen White, died Saturday in Bertie County in a tornado that obliterated the Laffertys' house, leaving nothing behind but the outline of the foundation. Their bodies were found together in the woods behind the house. White had two other siblings, and both live in Forsyth County: Lisa Barfield of Clemmons and Keith Travis of Winston-Salem.

After Saturday's tornado outbreak, many people have asked why the Piedmont does not have tornado sirens. Fox 8 talked with Guilford County Emergency Services Director Alan Perdue. He said that research was conducted several years ago and concluded that the lay of the land here in the Piedmont would make it a waste of taxpayer money.
