WBFJ News Update

Should prayers to a specific deity such as (in the name of Jesus) be omitted during government meetings? The ACLU sent a two page letter to Winston Salem Mayor Allen Joines and members of the City Council opposing prayers to a specific deity in favor of a non-sectarian prayer or a moment of silence.
-The Winston-Salem City Council routinely begins its meetings with a prayer that often references Jesus or Christ. The ACLU says the practice must end; however, it's a practice Christians are defending.
-Several Baptist pastors in the area spoke out in support of praying to Jesus. Dr Ronnie Baitey at Berean Baptist hosted the news conference.
In a statement from the mayor’s office…he is getting an informal consensus among council members as to what they want to do. He said he will not take a formal vote. The next WS City Council meeting is set for Dec 18
The ACLU says it sends letters to local governments all the time but has not filed any lawsuits in N.C. relating to the issue. (WBFJ News / Fox 8 news)
