Major power outage in High Point caused problems for drivers this morning . According to Fox 8, around 7,000 customers were affected after an explosion and fire at a power substation. Power outages covered an area near Main Street, Highway 68, Eastchester Drive and Westchester Drive. Power has been restored to most of High Point.
No power means NO classes at Wesleyan Academy. Exams for High Schoolers still on for 11am. Elementary and middle school classes, along with education childcare at Wesleyan Academy have been cancelled due to the power outage.
A tornado that ripped through Joplin, Missouri last night has claimed the lives of 89 people so far. The tornado flattened buildings, tossed cars and hurled debris up to 70 miles away. One relief worker with the Red Cross saying that “75% of the town in southwest Missouri is virtually gone’.
8 people who went tubing along the Yadkin River Sunday are now safe after being stranded overnight. WXII reporting that one of the tubers called 911 from a cell phone just before 8:30pm last night saying that they were stuck on a rock near the Baker Road landing access in Donanaha (along the Yadkin River). Authorities spotted the tubers just after 4am this morning. Three of the 8 people were taken to Baptist hospital. For several hours on Saturday afternoon, a black bear was spotted running up and down Battleground Avenue between New Garden Road and Cotswald Terrace in Greensboro. Witnesses said the bear looked to be about 60 pounds. The Greensboro News and Record reporting that another black bear was spotted Sunday morning in the Guilford Hills neighborhood off Benjamin Parkway .
