One pastor’s take on the death of Osama bin Laden: “…in my eyes, bin Laden died long ago. He died to goodness; he died to mercy; he died to peace. He died to the things that God cares most about.” Pastor David Lewicki is co-pastor of North Decatur Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Georgia.  Read the entire blog entry: http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/03/my-take-bin-laden-died-long-ago/?hpt=T2

The state House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill yesterday that is partially named for a Piedmont high school football player who died of head injuries. The Gfeller-Waller Concussion Awareness Act has two main requirements: anyone involved in high school athletics must read and sign a concussion and head injury awareness sheet and all high school programs must have an approved written plan for dealing with and treating head injuries. Matt Gfeller, a Reynolds High School sophomore, died of brain injuries after being hit during a football game in 2008. (Fox 8)

An autopsy has identified the body found in a car on Monday at a Greensboro lake as that of a missing Page High School senior. 18 year old Brooks Ferrell Jr had been missing since last Wednesday. Police are calling Ferrell's death a drowning and do not suspect foul play.

A new U.S. survey finds that nine out of 10 college-age adults think they are living a healthy lifestyle. BUT, experts with the American Heart Association are finding that…too much fast food, too much alcohol and too many sugary drinks are putting people aged 18 to 24 at increased risk for heart disease and stroke. http://consumer.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=652445

Doctors have been telling us for years that eating too much salt can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke by raising blood pressure to unsafe levels. Now, a new study suggests that low salt intake actually increases the risk of heart disease. The findings can be found in the May 4 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.  BTW: The average person in the U.S. consumes 3,500 milligrams of sodium a day. That’s equivalent to almost 9 grams of salt (or nearly 2 teaspoonfuls) —way more than the 2,300 milligrams per day suggested by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. But the majority of excess salt, or 77%, isn’t spooned into your food—it comes from processed foods. www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/05/03/salt.heart.attack/index.html?hpt=T2

What’s that cricket sounding noise??? Warning: A swarm of ‘cicadas’ is likely invaded your back yard. The insects are surfacing this month after 13 years in the ground to ‘be fruitful and multiply’ before they die. Cicadas, although noisy, cause little damage to hardwood trees (Stephen Bambara, extension specialist for the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service at N.C. State). http://www.news-record.com/content/2011/04/13/article/cicadas_coming_to_the_carolinas
