A ‘Flash Flood Watch’ for Stokes and Surry counties through late tonight

Breaking News: Emergency crews are responding to an accident involving a Guilford County school bus. The wreck involving bus #191 and another vehicle happened on Highway 61 just north of the Gibsonville city limits.  No major injuries were reported to anyone on the bus that was heading to Southeast Middle and Southeast High School in Guilford County. News 2 reporting that the driver of the other vehicle was killed. Principals from both schools are heading to the scene and will alert parents.


A moment of silence at Flat Rock Elementary School and Meadowview Middle School in Mt Airy yesterday morning in memory of Shane and Braylon Bledsoe who were killed in a car crash over the weekend. The family was returning from a trip to Virginia and was just a couple of miles from home when the father, Gregory Bledsoe, told investigators that he fell asleep behind the wheel. The brothers were riding in the back seat.  The parents, Gregory and Brandi Bledsoe, were both taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where Gregory Bledsoe was in serious condition Monday night and Brandi Bledsoe was in critical condition.  www.journalnow.com/news/2011/may/17/wsmain01-brothers-killed-in-mount-airy-crash-mourn-ar-1039048/


Extended snow days and natural disasters including tornadoes and wildfires is cause enough for flexibility in some school schedules trying to get in their 180 days.   A bill that would allow specific western and eastern school districts to meet 180 days OR 1,000 hours of instruction time is heading to the Governor for approval. Good cause.  Over $100,000 dollars was raised during a special benefit concert Sunday night in Birmingham, Alabama featuring Third Day and Tenth Avenue North.   After the concert in Greensboro on Friday, the tour travelled to Nashville for a concert on Saturday, then down to Birmingham on Sunday.  Mac Powell is an Alabama native.  Proceeds from the event will help tornado victims in that state. Comedy icon Jerry Lewis is stepping down as the host of the Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual Labor Day fundraiser in September.  Lewis will continue to serve as the national chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  Jerry Lewis has hosted the annual MDA telethon since 1966. DONALD TRUMP HAS DECIDED NOT TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT. Trump stated that business was his passion and he couldn't leave the private sector.

The mighty Mississippi River is still cresting and causing more flooding problems, now in three states. In Vicksburg, Mississippi, flood waters are expected to peak at record levels by the weekend.  (The Weather Channel)

A MEMORIAL WAS HELD OVER THE WEEKEND HONORING THE LIFE AND MINISTRY OF DAVID WILKERSON. Wilkerson was the founder of Times Square Church in New York and went on to found the Christ-centered teen drug recovery program…Teen Challenge. He was also the author of the book "The Cross and the Switchblade". Wilkerson was killed last month after his car was involved in a collision with a truck in East Texas. He was 79-years old. A private funeral was held for him last week in Tyler, Texas. His 70-year old wife, Gwendolyn, survived the crash and is now recovering from a broken hip.

Update: Former California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a child outside of his marriage to Maria Shriver. In a statement to the LA Times, Schwarzenegger said that "After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry."  The revelation came about a week after Schwarzenegger and his wife of 25 years announced that they were "amicably separating" and two weeks after their 25th wedding anniversary. Fox television is dropping "America's Most Wanted" from its Saturday night line up. Episodes of ‘COPS’ will air during the 9-10pm time slot.  Host John Walsh will be back with four,  two-hour programs on Fox. The show produced well over 1,000 episodes, and led to the capture of just as many criminals, since 1988.
