Two fatalities in two separate accidents on I-40 yesterday evening in Greensboro. 15 year old Darryl Baucum was killed following a wreck involving a tractor-trailer and at least five cars on I-40 between Koury Boulevard and Highway 220 around 6pm. Latisha Yvette Jones, of Greensboro, died after the car she was riding in ran into the back of a tractor trailer along EB I-40 near mile marker 218 in Greensboro. Superior Court Judge Steve Balog in Forsyth County should issue a ruling sometime this week on whether Michael Hayes will be released from a state mental institution. Hayes killed four people and wounded five others during a shooting spree along Old Salisbury Road in July of 1988. A jury found Hayes not guilty by reason of insanity.

The Coast Guard reporting that a 50-year-old woman died while scuba diving off the North Carolina coast on Saturday. Emergency medical workers and her diving companions tried to resuscitate her. Only about 20 of the 97 dogs seized from the Rush Kennel last month, are still left for adoption. The Guilford County Animal Shelter says they have a lot of poodles and Italian grey hounds that need to be adopted. The adoption process involves filling out an application and passing an interview. Home Improvement giant Lowe’s Incorporated is donating $50,000 dollars to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund to help flood and tornado victims in 12 states. In addition, Lowe’s stores in affected areas are serving as cash-donation sites for customer contributions. Singer and actress Lena Horne died Sunday night in New York. She was 92. Lena Horne was one of the first African-Americans to sign a long-term movie contract with a major Hollywood studio when she joined MGM in 1942.
