Dr. Andrew Leroy Parker, the longtime pastor of Friendly Avenue Baptist, passed away on Monday. Dr Parker was 95 years old. Dr Parker spent over 32 years as the pastor of Asheboro Street Baptist Church, now known as Friendly Avenue Baptist Church in Greensboro. He was the oldest living former president of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention. A graveside service set for Saturday morning at Forest Lawn Cemetery. A celebration service will be Sunday afternoon at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church.

A Clemmons woman said it was a mistake when she left $11,000 dollars stuffed in a sock that she had donated to a local Goodwill store. The money had been inadvertently left in a sock that was donated with some baby clothes at the Goodwill in Clemmons. An initial search Wednesday morning came up empty. North Carolina joins 17 other states considering immigration legislation similar to the law recently passed in Arizona. State Senator Don East (R – Surry County) has introduced a resolution in the North Carolina state senate to pass immigration legislation that would give police the power to detain anyone they suspect is in the country illegally and turn them over to immigration officers. The state Highway Patrol trooper involved in a crash that killed a woman and a young girl on Sunday was likely traveling 95 mph at the point of impact. Traffic accidents involving Highway Patrol troopers grew significantly last year over 2008, but officials say most of the accidents were not preventable. (Fox 8 / WXII)

Art Linkletter, the easygoing, smooth-voiced emcee famed for his "Kids Say the Darndest Things," passed away peacefully at home with his family on Wednesday. Linkletter was 97.

Wait and see: BP officials may know by this afternoon whether the oil company's latest attempt to cap the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico is actually working. The oil has washed ashore in nine locations in Louisiana, affecting 100 miles of coastline. The President has extended the moratorium on deep-water drilling. Four congressional hearings are scheduled for later today on the oil spill. (CNN)
