A Thomasville grandmother and a child died yesterday when their car was struck by a state trooper's car while in pursuit of another vehicle. Two other children riding in the car were taken to the hospital. The wreck happened about noon yesterday at the intersection of River Road and Business 85 in Jamestown. Trooper J.D. Goodnight was in pursuit of a Dodge Neon when the accident happened. The White House is threatening to remove oil giant BP from its lead role in the containment of that oil spill in the Gulf. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will travel to Louisiana today to access the situation.

24 people have lost their lives in severe floods triggered by heavy rains in parts of Sri Lanka. Over a half a million people have been displaced by flooding in Sri Lanka .

Brett Michaels the winner on "The Celebrity Apprentice" last night despite a life-threatening illness. Brett was rewarded with $250,000 dollars for charity. Michaels' appearance on last night’s Apprentice was in question…after he suffered a brain hemorrhage in April and was hospitalized again recently after suffering what doctors called a warning stroke. Michaels faces surgery for a hole in his heart. The founder of 'Jews for Jesus' Moishe Rosen died last week after a long battle with prostate cancer. The son of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, Rosen came to believe in Jesus at the age of 21 and felt a call to ministry shortly thereafter. In 1973, Rosen founded Jews for Jesus. A special memorial service has been scheduled for June 1 at First Baptist Church in San Francisco, where Jews for Jesus is based. Rosen was 78 years old.
