Non-profits with Revenues below $25,000 dollars must take action by this Saturday (May 15) to preserve their Tax-Exempt status. Congress passed a law that changed the rules so now all nonprofits must file a form with the IRS. As a result, current government records show that many non-profits in North Carolina could face the costly and time-consuming prospect of losing their status as tax-exempt organizations if they do not act by Saturday. For many small nonprofits with annual revenues below $25,000, that means filing an electronic version of IRS form 990-N (also known as the ePostcard) by May 15. Larger organizations must file Form 990 or 990-EZ. The North Carolina Center for Nonprofits www.ncnonprofits.org

Don’t expect to get that new DNA genetic testing kit at Walgreens just yet. Pathway Genomics announced earlier this week that it’s over-the-counter ‘saliva swab’ genetic testing kit would be on Walgreen's shelves later this month. On Wednesday, the FDA posted a letter to Pathway, the DNA testing kit maker, indicating that the company never submitted its product for federal review, a requirement for medical devices.

Parents in Illinois are outraged over a move by a local high school to scrap its basketball team trip to Arizona…because of the negative attention over the Grand Canyon State’s new immigration law. The Highland Park High School girl’s varsity basketball team has been selling cookies for months to raise money for a tournament in Arizona. Now, after winning their first conference title in 26 years, the girls are being denied the opportunity to play in the tournament over safety concerns. Parents said there was no vote or consultation regarding the decision, which they called confusing, especially since they say no players on the team are illegal immigrants. www.foxnews.com/us/2010/05/12/hoop-dreams-shattered-arizona-safety-fears/

The foreclosure plague may have finally reached its peak but don't expect delinquency statistics to plummet anytime soon. The total number of foreclosure filings fell by 9% from March to April. Now the reality: the number of homes repossessed during April was at an all-time high of close to 92,500 homes. That is a 45% increase over April 2009. If repossessions continue at this pace, more than 1.1 million homes will be lost in 2010. http://money.cnn.com/2010/05/13/real_estate/april_foreclosures/index.htm?hpt=T2
