Motorists traveling West on Business 40 will use the following signed detour:
421 North (Exit 188) to Lewisville Clemmons Road…then back to I-40 West.

Greensboro: Road Construction (Monday 9am to 3pm)
The right lane of Eastbound I-40 will be closed from Highway 68 to Guilford College Road. Crews will be repairing the lights through the Western Loop Detour area.

Gusts up to 70 mph were recorded in Maine. Strong winds and heavy rains toppled trees and brought down power lines from Maine to the Carolinas over the weekend. Thousands remain without power because of the high wind gusts. (AP)

The death of a Marine on Saturday has pushed the U.S. military's death toll in Iraq to 100 for October. October is the fourth deadliest month for American troops since the war began in March 2003. At least 26 Iraqis were fatally wounded today when a bomb exploded in Sadr City. (FOX NEWS CHANNEL)

A funeral service for Erik Walker was held yesterday at West Forsyth High School. Erik’s body was found last Thursday after his canoe overturned in the New River. Walker played baseball at West and at UNC-Charlotte.

St Louis Cardinals are the World Series champs:
Well, St. Louis has another record … the most dangerous city in the US in 2005. Morgan Press ranked 371 cities from safest to most dangerous.
According to FBI figures, violent crime in St. Louis surged nearly 20 percent from 2004 to last year. The second most dangerous city was Detroit, followed by Flint, Mich., and Compton, Calif.
Safest city in NC: Cary coming in at Number Eight. High Point was ranked safest in the Triad…but all the three cities in the Triad were ranked at the low end of being safe. High Point ranked 245th, Greensboro was Number 269, Durham was 272nd, Winston-Salem came in at Number 281 . Charlotte was the least safe in North Carolina…ranked 329th out of the 371 cities included in the survey. The safest city in 2005 was Brick, N.J., population about 78,000.

First Lady Laura Bush will visit western North Carolina on Tuesday:
She’s on the campaign trail with a stop at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center on behalf of Representative Charles Taylor. Representative Charles Taylor is in a tough fight with Democratic challenger Heath Shuler in the district that covers far western North Carolina. Sports fans will remember that Shuler, a Bryson City native, played quarterback for the University of Tennessee and in the NFL.

More than 200 new jobs coming to the Triad.
Ralph Lauren Media is bringing a service center to High Point. The center will be for the company's Polo.com operation. The 200 jobs will include management, technology support and call center operators. The average pay will be in the $33,000 range. The customer service center is expected to open next summer. (WXII)

Search crews have recovered the body of Erik Walker, the missing Clemmons man whose canoe overturned last weekend in the New River. Walker, a former baseball standout at UNC-Charlotte, attended West Forsyth High School. Funeral arrangements are still incomplete. (WSJOURNAL)

The New Jersey Supreme Court has ruled that same sex couples under the equal protection guarantee of the New Jersey Constitution must be afforded the same rights and benefits enjoyed by traditionally married couples. The state Legislature in New Jersey now has 180 days to decide whether to give same-sex couples the right to legally "marry" or create civil unions.

- The Elkin Tribune saying that Elkin High School faces sanctions, perhaps forfeiting three non-conference football games, after allegedly used an ineligible player. The sanctions would not affect the school's conference record…but could drop Elkin High to a lower seed for the playoffs.

This is the first World Series post-ponement since 1996.

Officials in Surry County are looking for an elderly woman who wandered off from her home last night. 70-year-old Mavis Oliver was last seen wearing a light fleece jacket and blue jeans. She is 5'7" with brownish to blonde hair. Miss Oliver lives in the Low Gap community. If anyone has seen Miss Oliver please contact 911 and ask for the Surry County Emergency Services. (WFMY)

Dozens of people held a candlelight vigil last night at the Southwest Forsyth Little League Baseball Field for 23 year old Erik Walker, the Clemmons man who has been missing for 4 days. Erik’s canoe flipped over in the New River at the NC -Virginia border on Saturday. (WXII)

More details are coming out about the US soldier kidnapped in Baghdad.
The soldier, who is an Iraqi-American translator, was visiting a relative at a residence near Baghdad when the kidnapping occurred Monday night. A military spokesperson saying that the soldier did not have permission to leave the Green Zone. (USA RADIO NEWS)

Lexington City School Board will vote in December to make their school system 100 percent tobacco-free in 2007. Currently students are not allowed to smoke on school property, but faculty and staff are allowed to do so in certain designated places.
More than 82% of North Carolina middle and high school students have tried smoking their first cigarette before their 15th birthday, according to the 2005 Youth Tobacco Survey. -Surrounding school systems like Guilford, Davie, Stanly and Montgomery counties and Thomasville City have adopted the policy. Davidson, Randolph and Forsyth counties have not adopted the policy yet. (the dispatch)

DALLAS –Ron Price, a trustee of the Dallas Independent School District, says that “No one needs to see anyone else’s underwear.” And Price thinks there ought to be a law.
Ron believes that “My problem is when grown men walk around our cities with their pants well below their ‘hinny’ with all their underwear exposed,”
“Pull it up, or pay up!” he says. “Either you can pull your pants up, or get a ticket and pay up.”
He's proposing that low-riding violators get hit with a fine of up to $50.
Price, who as a school board trustee pushed through a dress code for Dallas public schools, says it's time for citizens of every color to literally tighten their belts.
“It's not about race,” he says. “It's not about gender. It's an issue of respect and honor.”

Southern Alamance High School has postponed its varsity football game tonight because of the tragic death of head Football coach Tony Perrou who was killed in an automobile accident on Tuesday in Alamance County. Perrou’s funeral will be on Saturday. (WXII)

The North Carolina Education Lottery has made its first transfer of money since the games began back in March. The agency sent $95 million in ticket profits to a special education fund. The law requires 50% of the Education Lottery Profits to go to cutting class size in early grades, 40% goes for school construction and 10% goes to scholarships. (WS JOURNAL)

Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center is looking for people between 50 and 85 with age-related mac-u-lar degeneration for a study to measure the effects of antioxidants and fish oil on the eye disease. Participants need to have age-related macular degeneration in both eyes, or advanced age-related macular degeneration in one eye.

Federal agents are now saying that a man in Milwaukee has admitted to sending phony NFL terror threats as part of a "writer's duel." The Milwaukee man and a second suspect in Texas attempted to "outdo" the other in producing the scariest terror threat. Two more aftershocks were felt yesterday in the heart of Winston-Salem.
The U.S. Geological Survey saying aftershocks can happen weeks after a sizeable earthquake.

Jessica Michelle Sykes, a student at North Surry High School, died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident that happened on Tuesday. The Highway patrol saying that speed and wet road conditions contributed to the accident. She was 17 years old. (WXII)

Two major medical facilities in Winston-Salem will be going tobacco –free in 2007. Both Forsyth Medical Center and Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical center have been smoke-free for interior spaces for about ten years, but did allow smoking in certain areas near the main entrances. But that will change in 2007. (Fox 8 / WSJS)

The Defense Department saying that a plan to re-mobilize some Marine reserve units back to Iraq…will start in 2008. The plan should lessen some of the growing strain on active-duty Marines. The Marines have 24 active-duty combat battalions. At any given time, nine of them are in Iraq. (CBS news)

Nissan is recalling more than 80,000 vehicles in the US produced between August 2004 and July 2006 because of an ignition key defect. The recalls involve only the cars with "intelligent keys." (AP)

A ‘terror threat’ posted on a website claiming that seven NFL stadiums will be hit with radioactive ‘dirty bombs’ this weekend is NOT believed credible. The Department of Homeland Security have warned 7 major US cities (including Houston, New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Oakland and Cleveland) that their stadiums had been included in the threat. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for most of our listening area til 9am.
-Areas in the mountains and foothills could have visibility drop to less than a quarter of a mile to near zero at times. -If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.

The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed a 1.5 quake occurred at 7:54 pm in southwestern Winston-Salem…then at 9:11 p.m., a 2.4 quake was reported southeast of Winston-Salem. No damage was reported from either incident.

Another Christian missionary has been kidnapped in Haiti.
Rev. Pritchard Adams III, a long time resident of Haiti, was abducted (along with his wife and a groundskeeper) as he left his church in northern Haiti Sunday night. Captors are demanding a $5,000 dollar ransom for his release.
Up-date: Fox News and CNN both reporting that the missionary has been released without harm.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in Japan today in an effort to persuade American allies to keep pressure on North Korea. Speaking of North Korea…Officials say satellite images show that North Korea appears to be getting ready for a second nuclear test. (USA Radio news)

Pop star Madonna is in the process of adopting a baby from Africa…saying that she and her husband wanted to help one child escape poverty.
Madonna said she would follow a standard procedure that requires an 18-month evaluation process before the adoption becomes final. (CNN)

Aftershocks have followed a 6.6 magnitude earthquake that struck Hawaii on Sunday. Hundreds have been evacuated. There have been reports of blackouts and landslides…good news that there should be no threat of a Tsunami. Heavy rain and strong storms throughout the South today. Tornado watches posted for parts of Texas. Residents still digging out in New York. Several school systems in Buffalo, NY have cancelled classes for the rest of the week. (CNN)

President Bush will be visiting the Piedmont on Wednesday.

More than 400 riders participated in the Ride to Victory on Sunday afternoon at the Victory Junction Gang Camp raising close to $40,000 to support special-needs kids who attend the camp. (www.victoryjunction.org)

North Korea said today that increased U.S. pressure against the communist regime would be considered an act of war. North Korea presumably tested a nuclear bomb underground on Monday.
N. Korea’s #2 person in charge threatens more nuclear tests.
- South Korea is on a heightened state of alert.
U.S. envoy to the UN, John Bolton, saying that the U.S. will not respond to North Korean threats. (CNN)

Ford Motor Company is recalling over 145,000 vehicles for a range of problems from defective latches to faulty drive-trains, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall involves 2005 and 2006 Ford sedans, minivans and SUV. Ford dealers will inspect the drive-train shaft and replace it if necessary. (AP)

Planning on a trip to PTI in the near future?
Starting at the end of October, drivers to PTI will use a temporary road off Bryan Boulevard to access the airport. The changes coming because of the new FedEx hub…which will open 2009. The changes will be in effect for the next 18 to 24 months at PTI. (news14)

330 workers at the Goodyear tire plant in Asheboro will be laid off temporarily this week because of labor problems at 16 Goodyear tire plants in the United States and Canada. The last day of work for the hourly workers will be Friday. It is the first layoff at the Asheboro plant since it opened in 1983.

A new study suggests that people in their 40’s and 50s who have severe psoriasis face an increased risk of having a heart attack.
Doctors say that Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder, occurring when the body begins overproducing skin cells. The extra cells pile up on the surface of the skin before they have a chance to mature, creating bright red patches that cause itching, burning and stinging. The disease affects close to 3% of adults.

All of the proceeds from Plinko will send kids to Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman. Your giving was up nearly 10% from last year.
-Victory Junction Gang Camp was founded in 2004 by Kyle and Pattie Petty, in honor of their son Adam. The Victory Junction Gang Camp is a year-round camp serving children, ages 7 to 15, with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses. www.victoryjunction.org

Authorities as well as family members are looking for a woman who works in Greensboro and who has been missing since September.
Sherry D. Hampton, 45, who has a Charlotte address, was last seen by her family on Sept. 29. She was reported missing to Charlotte police on Oct. 2.
Her vehicle was found on South Tryon Street in Charlotte. Anyone with information is asked to call authorities. (WXII)
