Marriages tend to ‘work better’ when a husband is heavier than his wife?  The study tracked 169 newlyweds over four years.  Researchers found that when husbands had a higher body mass index than wives, husbands were more satisfied soon after vows were exchanged and wives were more satisfied over the long term, than if the situation was reversed. The great take-home message from our study (so says Andrea Meltzer, the lead researcher) is that women of any size can be happy in their relationships with the right partner. Meltzer said it's not clear how relative differences in weight affect marriage happiness, but "one idea is that attractiveness and weight are more important to men." But she stressed that weight is just one factor in marital bliss.   The study is published in the July issue of Social Psychological and Personality Science. http://consumer.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=654999

Obesity is now a problem in all 50 states so says a new government study. A dozen states now have obesity rates of 30 percent or higher, up from nine states three years ago. Are deep fried foods and lack of exercise taking years away from our lives???

Nutritional educator Stuart Tomc says that a healther diet, more exercise and adding fresh fish or fish oil supplements daily can add years to your life.

According to researchers at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington in Seattle, obesity and high blood pressure stemming from poor diet and lifestyle choices have dropped life expectancy for millions of Americans throughout Appalachia, the Deep South and northern Texas.

The new study, entitled "Falling behind: life expectancy in US counties from 2000 to 2007 in an international context", surveyed life expectancy rates in over 3,000 U.S. counties and cross referenced the findings, comparing the results county-to-county and also against life expectancy rates in other nations.

"Those living in America's Southern states showed the shortest life spans compared with other parts of the nation," says health educator Stuart Tomc.

So, allowing the toddler to share the bed with you: good idea or bad idea? According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, it’s NOT harmful to toddlers to share the bed with you, as long as your child is at least one year old. And you and your child are getting safe, adequate sleep. The AAP warns that it's not advised for parents to sleep with infants before the age of 6 months. That's the time when babies are most at risk for sudden infant death syndrome (or SIDS).

So, allowing the toddler to share the bed with you…good idea or bad idea? Experts can't seem to agree, but a new study finds that it’s NOT harmful to children…as long as the child is at least a year old.  It’s called ‘bed-sharing’, where parents and a child sleep in the same bed. It's not as common in the US, as it is in other countries.  According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, it's not advised for parents to sleep with infants before the age of 6 months. That's the time when babies are most at risk for sudden infant death syndrome (or SIDS). Experts from the study agree that once a child is 12 months old , co-sleeping or bed-sharing with parents is really up to the preference of the family. However, the goal for any sleep arrangement is to get safe, adequate sleep. If bed-sharing is getting in the way of a good night's sleep or is dangerous in any way for your child, then it's not a good idea. http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/07/17/box-office-report-harry-potter-deathly-hallows-part-2/?hpt=hp_t2

Are deep fried foods and lack of exercise taking years away from our lives???

Nutritional educator Stuart Tomc says that a healther diet, more exercise and adding fresh fish or fish oil supplements can add years to your life.
