BTW: One month until Christmas Day…

Thank you for participating in packing shoeboxes through Operation Christmas Child. From Danny Spainhour with Pinedale Christian Church:
We’re still waiting on the exact total but as of tonight (Tuesday) we have 34,784 shoeboxes in route to the processing center in Charlotte from the Winston-Salem area. I’m pretty sure we’ll go over the 35K mark once everything is totaled up.
Danny says ”There are plenty of times in ministry when you’re not exactly sure if – or how much – you might have helped to advance the Good News. However, with each shoebox we know the story of Jesus Christ will be shared and everyone involved will be invited to accept Him as Savior and Lord. Thanks for helping us send out over 35,000 invitations from the Triad.’

Good thing that it wasn’t a ‘canned ham”? Celebrity chef Paula Deen was helping to deliver more than 25,000 lbs. of protein to Hosea Feed the Hungry in the Atlanta area earlier this week. Although the focus was on giving back, things took a quick turn when Deen got a serving of ham in a rather unique way. While tossing hams and turkeys, a misguided thrown ham hit Deen in the face, but that didn’t sideline her from the topic at hand. Deen is helping promote Smith Field Foods' initiative to help ensure that American families in need do not go hungry. http://www.cbsatlanta.com/news/21699504/detail.html

On Tuesday, Senator Byrd's service tied the record set by Carl Hayden, D-Ariz., who served in the House (then the Senate) from 1912 to 1969. "I look forward to serving you for the next 56 years and 320 days," Byrd said in a statement marking the occasion. His only regret, Byrd said, was that his late wife, Erma, was not there with him. THE AMERICAN CENTER FOR LAW AND JUSTICE IS ASKING A FEDERAL COURT TO DISMISS A CASE CHALLENGING THE ENGRAVINGS OF THE NATIONAL MOTTO AND THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE AT THE CAPITOL VISITORS CENTER. The A-C-L-J says the court brief represents 41 members of the House of Representatives and three members of the Senate. The brief argues the display of "In God, We Trust" and the reference to God in the Pledge of Allegiance do not violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
The brief argues that both the national motto and Pledge of Allegiance accurately reflect the historical fact that our nation was founded on a belief in God and that the constitutionality of both is well established in case law. www.aclj.org/

Help support the 1st Amendment and public prayer

A federal magistrate has recommended that prayers referencing Jesus and other sectarian deities made before meetings of the Forsyth County Commissioners are unconstitutional.

What do you think? Email the commissioners in Forsyth County:
http://www.co.forsyth.nc.us/Commissioners/elec_MeetTheBoard.aspx

The decision by Magistrate Judge Trevor Sharp was in favor of the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed the lawsuit against Forsyth County on behalf of two county residents Janet Joyner and Constance Blackmon.

According to Sharp's ruling, prayers that were used to open the meetings "referred to Jesus, Jesus Christ, Christ, or Savior with overwhelming frequency," and that such prayers "display a preference for Christianity over other religions by the government."

The county was represented by the Alliance Defense Fund, which defended the county at no charge. The recommendation now goes to a federal judge.

New Jersey is also a blow to the Obama administration, where the President personally campaigned for ousted governor Jon Corzine.
