A local youth pastor's family from Union Grove Baptist Church is still in the hospital after a two car accident on Monday. Jeremy, Tiffany and Stephen Pollard suffered numerous injuries…
The Pollard’s 17 month old son Stephen will have surgery this morning.
Tiffany is improving. Jeremy Pollard is still in critical condition.
Jade Lineberry, the driver of the second car, also sustained numerous injuries and remains in the hospital.

TODAY MARKS THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF PRINCESS DIANA. A memorial service is being held in London for Diana, who was killed in a car accident in Paris back in 1997.

The Guilford County school board is considering moving most after school programs to 6pm on school days. Any after school clubs such as the Boy scouts and Girl Scouts, Mad Science, Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCA activities, or anyone else would be denied access to school facilities for club use. Plus, these groups will not be able to pass out literature to inform students of the after school opportunities. After school programs operated by school system employees on public school property would continue.

Because of the drought, Governor Easley has suspended regulations on the size and weight of certain trucks hauling feed for livestock. The drought has caused many farmers to dip into their winter hay supplies in order to feed their livestock this summer.

A new report sites ‘COMMUNICATION’ as the biggest contributing factor leading up to the deadly shootings on the campus of VIRGINIA TECH back in April. The report says school officials failed to share their concerns about the mental health of the student who would later become the gunman.

Laura says that she hadn't heard of the Atlanta Falcons star quarterback before he was indicted for dog fighting. Laura, who outbid 30 others, lives in the town where the auction originated and has requested the money be donated to the local Humane Society. (CNN)

Students in Guilford County back in class today...
Watch out for the back-packers over the next few days.

A celebration service will be at 4pm this afternoon at Bethesda United Methodist Church for Christopher Madren who was killed in a single car accident early Saturday Morning. Madren was a rising senior at North Davidson High School and a member of the Welcome Fire Department. Memorials can be made to the Welcome Fire Department.

A Piedmont High School student faces charges on the first day of the school year. A school resource office at R.J. Reynolds High School spotted a BB gun and paintball gun in a student’s car. A court date has been set on September 25.

A suspected copper thief remains in critical condition. Winston-Salem police found Joseph Stewart hanging from a wire early Sunday morning at the Duke Energy substation just off Main Street. Officers think Stewart was trying to steal copper wiring and got shocked.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick pleaded guilty (Monday) to federal charges stemming from a dog-fighting ring. After leaving the courthouse, Vick apologized for his actions. Sentencing for Vick is set for December 10th.

New Life Church in Colorado Springs has a new pastor to succeed Ted Haggard. Reverend Brady Boyd was voted in by the congregation. Ted Haggard stepped down as pastor of the mega church last November after admitting to immoral behavior.

The worst flooding in years has hit India. Record monsoons have driven 28 million people from their homes…and have claimed more than 2,000 lives. Missionaries with Gospel for Asia are on the scene providing rice and beans, cooking utensils, kerosene, and other items to flood victims.

Ohio joins Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Minnesota as the latest Midwestern state to be declared a Federal Disaster Area by President Bush. Thousands of homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed by heavy rains that led to massive flooding last week.

Greek authorities have arrested 8 people in connection with wildfires that are burning in the country of Greece. The fires have claimed at least 63 lives…with thousands of other people left homeless. Thousands of acres of land and property have been destroyed.

The New York Times is reporting that President Bush has accepted the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Gonzales came under fire for his role in the firing of eight federal prosecutors.

WISCONSIN IS THE LATEST MIDWESTERN STATE TO BE DECLARED A FEDERAL DISASTER AREA BECAUSE OF RECENT FLOODING. Last week Minnesota and Oklahoma were declared federal disaster areas. Other states hit hard by heavy rains and flood waters include Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.

DEADLY WILDFIRES IN GREECE ARE MOVING CLOSER AND CLOSER TO OLYMPIA…THE ANCIENT BIRTHPLACE OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES. The fires have claimed 62 lives. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of arson.

A SEVENTH BORE HOLE IS TO BE DRILLED IN HOPES OF FINDING SOME TRACE OF THE SIX TRAPPED MINERS IN UTAH. Federal mining officials say that the sixth hole didn’t provide any helpful information.

Reverend Billy Graham remains hospitalized today…but continues to show progress. The 88 year old evangelist was admitted just over a week ago for intestinal bleeding.

The founder of Coral Ridge Ministries will retire.
Dr D. James Kennedy has not been able to return to the pulpit after a heart attack in late 2006. The announcement was made during the morning worship service yesterday.

Texas and all of central Mexico preparing for Hurricane Dean.
Dean is currently moving west toward the Cayman Islands and Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. Dean hammered the southern coast of Jamaica on Sunday. Hurricane Dean is expected to strengthen to a category 5 storm later today. (Cat 5 = sustained winds of more than 155 mph).

The oldest living person has died: Yone Min-a-gaw-a, from Japan, was born on January 4, 1893. She was declared the oldest living person in the world back in January

-Yone was listed as the oldest known person by the Guinness Book of World Records following the death of Emma Faust Tillman, also 114, from the US.

Danny Anderson and his son from Prosser, Washington spotted a 5-foot rattlesnake earlier in the week while feeding his horses. They pinned snake with a pipe and cut off its head with a shovel. *When Anderson reached down to pick it up, he said, the snake head twisted around and bit his index finger. In the 10 minutes it took to reach Prosser Memorial Hospital, the venom spread through his body and his tongue had already started to swell.

A large ceramic turtle has been recovered after it was accidentally sold for 50 cents at a rummage sale. When Anita Lewis of Elmira, New York sold the turtle last Saturday to a woman with plans to use it as a cookie jar, Anita didn't know that the ceramic turtle held the ashes of her husband's late wife. Terrence Lewis' previous wife had collected turtles and the couple's home was full of them, Anita said. One fatality and 11 others injured yesterday morning after a truck and a church van collided on Highway 601 in Davie County. Norma Shore, a passenger in the van and a volunteer at Charity Baptist Church in Boonville, died in the crash. Norma was one of three adults taking a group of eight teenagers to Fort Caswell, a Baptist retreat center, at Oak Island. Under construction but help wanted: The Proximity Hotel in Greensboro is holding a job fair today at the O.Henry Hotel on Green Valley Road in Greensboro. Salty Sea keeps eight year afloat: A young Israeli boy has been found alive after surviving six hours alone in the Dead Sea. Rescuers said they expected to find a body, but instead found the 8-year-old "alive and well" last Friday morning floating about 2 miles offshore.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has ordered the immediate inspection of 756 bridges around the country of similar design to the one that collapsed on Wednesday in Minneapolis.

The I-35 west bridge in Minnesota jammed with rush-hour traffic suddenly broke into huge sections and collapsed into the Mississippi River Wednesday around 6pm local time. According to a 2005 Triple A of the Carolinas report, more than 25% of the state’s bridges were substandard.
