Gas prices in the Triad are down compared to the national average. The average locally is $2.96 a gallon. One year ago…a gallon of gas was $2.29.

Just keeping his options open: Guilford County Schools' superintendent Dr. Terry Grier is among the candidates under consideration for the superintendent's position of the San Diego, California Unified School District. On Tuesday, Nov. 8, Grier was named the 2008 North Carolina Superintendent of the Year by the NC Association of School Administrators. Guilford County Schools is the third largest public school system in North Carolina. The Board expects to name a new superintendent on December 18.

The driver of the school bus that overturned near the intersection of Groometown Road and Brandy Road in Greensboro is still in critical condition. The woman who works as a volunteer security guard at New Life Church in Colorado is being hailed as a hero after stopping a gunman who entered the church on Sunday. Jeanne Assam is a former law enforcement officer. Police believe the same gunman is responsible for two fatal shootings at a Youth With A Mission facility some 60 miles away 12 hours earlier. The number of children dying from preventable diseases world wide is at the lowest level on record. A new report from the United Nations found the highest mortality rates for children are in those countries where HIV is widespread and in regions devastated by violent conflict.
