Planning on hosting or attending a New Year’s Eve Party tonight?
If you make it to midnight, you probably will watch the Ball drop in Times Square.
The celebration of dropping a ball at the strike of midnight to ring in the New Year turns 100 this year. The world-famous glass ball has gone ‘green’ for 2008. Philips Lighting says that the lights are smaller but more than twice as bright as last year's lights. The ball has more than 9,000 energy-efficient bulbs that use about the same amount of electricity as 10 electric toasters. The new lights can create more than 16 million colors against the 672 Waterford Crystal triangles. The ‘ball’ was first dropped for the New Year's Eve celebration in 1907. The ball was made of iron and wood, weighed 700 pounds and was lit with 100 25-watt light bulbs. http://www.wxii12.com/news/14949017/detail.html
