A hearing will continue later this morning that could lead to the release of convicted killer Michael Hayes. Hayes fatally shot four people and wounded five others in a shooting spree on Old Salisbury Road in 1988. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was sent to Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh. According to the Winston-Salem Journal, two Dorothea Dix employees testified Monday that Hayes shows no current signs of mental illness and isn't a public danger. A man who was helping his girlfriend who ran out of gas on I-40 was assaulted early this morning. The incident happened around 3:17 a.m. when a black vehicle pulled up and a man got out. The man assaulted the boyfriend and then got back into his car and drove south on US 421. The attack was witnessed by an off-duty EMT who assisted the couple. The victim was taken to Cone Hospital with life-threatening injuries. FEDERAL AGENTS HAVE MADE AN ARREST IN THAT FAILED CAR BOMBING ATTEMPT IN TIMES SQUARE. A naturalized US citizen from Pakistan was taken into custody shortly before midnight. 30-year-old Faisal Shah-zad was taken into custody at Kennedy Airport as he tried to board a flight to Dubai. The investigation is ongoing. (CNN)

Much of downtown Nashville remains flooded after weekend rains pounded much of Tennessee. At least 27 deaths have been blamed on flooding across the Southeast. 18 deaths in Tennessee. Nashville residents have been asked to cut water useage because the water treatment plant is flooded. FYI: Nashville normally gets about 5 inches of rain in the month of May. Nashville received up to 16 inches of rain in 48 hours over the weekend.
