NASCAR team owner Richard Childress and his family are donating $5 million to start a pediatric trauma institute at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Construction will begin later this year.

(Slidell, Louisiana) 11-year-old Devin Funck and two friends were playing near a body of water close to Devin’s home on Wednesday. An alligator attacked the boy and swallowing his arm. Officials jumped into action…searching for, catching and cutting the animal open to retrieve the limb from the alligator's stomach after. The automated baggage sorting system used by American Airlines at JFK in New York stopped working yesterday. At least one-thousand pieces of luggage were separated from their owners. The problem also delayed 35 flights.

On Tuesday, Delta Air, the nation's third-largest carrier, announced that it will double its charge for checking a second bag on domestic flights from $25 to $50. Most major carriers already charge $25 to check a second suitcase.

Code Orange Air Quality Alert for the Triad today

Voluntary water restrictions are in effect for Forsyth and Stokes counties including Winston-Salem.
The Yadkin River is down and approaching its lowest level in 10 years.
Here’s how to help:
● Limit watering of lawns to no more than an hour a day. Avoid watering between 9 - 6pm
● Repair all leaky faucets and toilets.
● Shower for no more than 5 minutes instead of bathtub bathing.
● Turn off faucets while shaving, brushing teeth or rinsing dishes.
● Operate washing machines and dishwashers only with full loads.
● Limit vehicle washing.
● Refrain from hosing off sidewalks, patios and driveways.
● Refrain from filling swimming and wading pools.

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit Southern California yesterday afternoon. The quake centered roughly 30 miles southeast of LA lasting about 15 seconds. About a dozen aftershocks shook things up after the initial quake.

A wildfire near California’s Yosemite National Park is threatening nearly 4,000 homes. 25 homes have been destroyed by the fires. Authorities say the latest wildfire was started by someone ‘target shooting’.

Republican Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska has been indicted on seven counts of failing to report more than a quarter-of-a-million dollars worth of gifts from an Alaska oil company. The 84 year old Stevens has relinquished his leadership positions within the Senate, pending the outcome of the charges.

The popular urban street pastime called double dutch, in which competitors jump between two ropes twirled eggbeater-style, is getting more recognition, becoming an officially sanctioned sport in New York City high schools. Double dutch will be a spring sport this coming school year after basketball season is over and there is space in the gyms. Pastor Greg Laurie made an unexpected visit to his church yesterday morning…just days after the tragic death of his son. The congregation of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Southern California welcomed Pastor Greg Laurie with a standing ovation on Sunday. Laurie told his congregation that he was not really in church as the pastor, but rather as a grieving father and that there was no other place he would rather be. Pastor Greg’s son Christopher, died in a freeway accident in Southern California on Thursday. He was 33 years old.
A memorial service for Christopher is planned for this Friday. (The Orange County Register)

Two people lost their lives and seven others were wounded in a random shooting Sunday morning at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. The 58-year old male gunman was finally wrestled to the ground and taken into custody.

A motor accident claimed the life of Christopher Brian Pack of Walkertown.

The Church of England's governing body has agreed to allow women to become bishops but wants to work out some way to accommodate those who object to the decision. South Carolina drivers may soon be able to profess their Christian faith with a state-issued license plate featuring a Christian cross and the words "I Believe."
