A middle-school teacher in Apex has been suspended after reacting angrily on her Facebook page that she was subjected to a "hate crime" by Christian students.
The Raleigh News & Observer reporting that West Lake Middle School eighth-grade science teacher Melissa Hussain was suspended with pay while investigators review her case.
Greg Thomas, a spokesman for the Wake County Schools, said that parents objected to comments on Hussain's social-networking site about her conflict with Christian students.
Hussain wrote that she would punish students who anonymously left a Bible on her desk. Parents said that a student earlier put a postcard of Jesus on Hussain's desk that she threw in the trash. Hussain's Facebook page does not mention her religious affiliation.

The Winter Games in Vancouver…
Some good news for the USA yesterday:
-The US men's hockey team won its opener against Switzerland…3 -1.
The US women's hockey team dominated again.
-High Point native and Olympic rookie Heather Richardson finished 6th out of 36 speed skaters in yesterday’s 500 meter races. Heather, who made the inline-to-ice transition in 2007, expects to make a bigger splash at the Sochi Games in 20-14.
-Germany leads the overall medal count with 9 medals.
-The USA has 8 medals (2-Gold 2-Silver 4-Bronze)

Today at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver watch for…
(snowboarder) Shaun White, (speed skater) Shani Davis and (short track speedskater) Apolo Anton Ohno will be in action today. Apolo won a silver medal over the weekend, his sixth medal since the 2002 Winter Olympics. Lindsey Vonn got another day off yesterday to rest her shin as heavy snowfall closed the course.

A Scottish Terrier named ‘Sadie’ was crowned 'Best In Show' last night at the Westminster Dog Show in New York. Sadie became the first Triple Crown winner of dogdom. She took the National Dog Show in Philadelphia in November and the AKC National Championship in California in December. The dog show was halted for a brief time after two women representing PETA trotted out to the middle of the arena and held up signs in support of shelter dogs.
