The UN is appealing for more emergency funding and aid for the victims of the devastating floods in Pakistan. Flooding has claimed at least 16 hundred lives and left nearly two million people homeless. Officials saying that this is the worst flooding in Pakistan in more than 80 years. (VOA)
The remains of four US aid workers killed by the Taliban are being flown back to the States. The bodies of two other Americans killed will be buried in Afghanistan. Ten members of a Christian medical team were fatally wounded in northern Afghanistan last week.
A McGrady Volunteer Firefighter and EMT in Wilkes County was killed earlier this week. 19-year-old Allen Matheson died Monday night after the vehicle he was riding in crashed into another car. The accident happened on Mountain Valley Church Road. Matheson was the step-son of the McGrady Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief. Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Visitation is tomorrow evening from 6:30 to 8:30pm at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

The funeral for Shelby Chisom, the Davidson County teen that was killed over the weekend, will be this Saturday at 11 a.m. at Good Hope United Methodist Church. No formal visitation has been scheduled. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.
