The income gap between the richest and poorest Americans grew last year to its widest amount on record. New census figures show that young adults and children in particular struggled to stay afloat in the recession. The top-earning 20% of Americans - those making more than $100,000 dollars each year - earn nearly 50% of the income generated in the US.

Lewisville United Methodist Church will hold a funeral for the abandoned baby found outside a Winston-Salem Planned Parenthood Clinic earlier this month. Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home will cover the costs of the service. The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Medical examiners are still not sure how the baby died. (Fox8)

The Obama administration is pushing to make it easier for the government to tap into Internet and e-mail communications. Critics worry the changes are an unnecessary invasion of privacy and would only make citizens and businesses more vulnerable to identity theft and espionage.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved $150,000 in incentives in an effort to entice Pepsi to expand its call center. Winston-Salem is competing with Plano, Texas, Fargo, N.D. and Chicago for the expansion. A total of $800,000 dollars in incentives is on the table. The new Pepsi expansion would add 195 jobs.

The owner of the Segway company has died, apparently in an accident involving one of his upright two-wheeled vehicles. A passer-by found the body of 62 year old James Heselden along side his Segway Sunday morning apparently having fallen from the cliffs above. Heselden's family said in a statement that "there is absolutely nothing to suggest it was anything other than a tragic accident. Heselden was the chairman of Hesco Bastion, a company that manufactures protective walls used by military troops. He also owned Segway Inc. The 13 member Texas State Board of Education approved a resolution that calls for the rejection of textbooks that are overly “pro-Islamic and blatantly anti-Christian.” The Texas Board’s decisions are expected to be felt nationwide. Publishers usually cater to the textbook demands of the larger states and offer those schoolbooks to students in smaller states. A Florida man picked the wrong day to ‘tickle’ Elmo. The man who police say assaulted another man dressed in an Elmo suit was taken to an area hospital in Winter Park, Florida and also detained for a mental health evaluation.
