Weekend happenings...

If you're headed to downtown Winston-Salem on Saturday, you might want to allow some extra time. The Wake Forest - Duke football game at BB&T Field (NOON) and the Winston-Salem Air Show at Smith Reynolds Airport are just two of the many events going on this weekend in the Twin City. Also going on in downtown WS, a 5-kilometer run in the West End, a bike race and car show in Old Salem, and a book festival on Trade Street. Plus, the opening weekend of the new Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts.

9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance Events (Saturday)
9-11 Memorial service at Corpening Plaza - 9:45am in downtown Winston-Salem
Sponsored by the Winston-Salem Professional Firefighters Association and the Police Benevolence Association.

9-11 Memorial Service this Saturday morning (8:30 – 9am) at Salem College. Come out and sign a "thank you" banner for troops, firefighters, and police officers. Also, the community is asked to donate supplies for troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The event is sponsored by “Hands-On NWNC” in collaboration with Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the Hispanic League, Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University and Salem College.

Other events going on in the community...
Pink Heals Tour. Join the High Point Fire Department on Saturday (Sept 11) from 9:30AM-3:30PM at the Showplace parking lot in HP. Proceeds to benefit the Cancer Patient Support Program at High Point Regional Hospital. The tour consists of five PINK fire trucks and firefighters trade their regular gear for pink. Open House this Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5pm at the Ronald McDonald House in Winston-Salem. A recent addition to the Ronald McDonald House on South Hawthorne Road has doubled its capacity, now accommodating up to 35 families. Family friendly events are planned for the Open House. Traffic Alert for the weekend (Greensboro)
A stretch of I-40 in Greensboro will be closed this weekend to Westbound I-40 will be blocked at Highway 220 from early Saturday morning until 6am Monday morning as crews continue to work on the Bridford Parkway bridge.
-The exits from High Point Road and Wendover Avenue will be closed.
-Traffic from Patterson Avenue will be detoured onto westbound Wendover.
