Consumers can go green and save some green just by replacing older, less-efficient appliance models. The state has re-allocated $1 million dollars to North Carolina’s ENERGY STAR Appliance Replacement and Rebate program. Energy appliances purchased June 1st or after qualify for rebates. Authorities say a 10-year-old boy from Salisbury drowned after he fell into a swimming pool while walking his dog on Tuesday. The boy, who’s name was not released, was reported missing after his dog returned home without him.

Wake Law Students are helping local families avoid foreclosure. The Community Law and Business Clinic is giving law students in the clinic at least one foreclosure case to work on working with referrals from Legal Aid. The initiative helps families facing foreclosure navigate the system. It also gives students valuable hands-on experience with the guidance of Virgil and Legal Aid. The family of Elizabeth Edwards will hold that a public funeral service will be held at 1pm this Saturday afternoon at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh. A private graveside service will follow. Edwards will be buried beside her son Wade who died in a car accident back in 1996. Head coach of the Carolina Panthers, John Fox, was asked by reporters yesterday about a ‘letter’ from team owner Jerry Richardson that was sent to permanent seat license holders or (PSL) owners apologizing for the Panther’s dismal season. Fox said, "I have no idea what you're talking about." Seems that Richardson apologized for the team’s performance but did NOT address Fox's status for next year . (FOX news)

UPS is now requiring photo identification from customers shipping packages at retail locations around the world. The stepped up security comes a month after explosives made it on to one of the company's planes.  FYI: UPS will deliver an estimated 430 million packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Local businesses in downtown Winston-Salem are embracing the crowds of people who flock to the annual performances of ‘The Nutcracker’ with some cool discounts. Roughly 20 stores and 25 restaurants are participating in the ‘Nutz About Downtown’ campaign…offering group discounts on everything from food to gifts to get people in the door. Most stores require a ticket stub or playbill from ‘The Nutcracker’ to get the discounts. Most participating stores will honor the discounts through the end of December, while participating restaurants are will honor the discounts only on nights of Nutcracker performances.  FYI: ‘The Nutcracker’ performances bring in roughly 12,000 additional consumers to the downtown area of Winston-Salem in December.

TobyMac will soon make his feature film debut in the faith-based movie called "I'm in Love with a Church Girl". The movie tells the story of a ‘retired’ drug trafficker who remains loyal to his friends and former business associates.  Then, he meets Vanessa, a ‘church girl’…now, he must decide whether to hold onto his old ways or let them go.
