THERE'S SOME GOOD NEWS ABOUT MARRIAGE FROM THE U.S. CENSUS BUREAU. The report finds that 55% of all married couples had been married for at least 15 years…while 35% of married couples had reached their 25th wedding anniversary.

The state’s fastest growing people group: 55 and up. Since the last national count in 2000, the overall population in North Carolina jumped nearly 1.5 million (or 18 percent) to more than 9.5 million people.  During the same 10 year period, the number of residents 55 and older surged 40%. The median age in NC has also increased from 35.3 years to 37.4 years. Experts are saying that NOW is the best time  to sell your car in 16 years. Many of us are holding on to our vehicles, and that has created a tighter used car market and causing used car prices to go higher. BTW: Dealers are paying an average of $11, 600 dollars for a used car or truck. (AP)

A fire yesterday afternoon at a house on Countryside Drive in Winston-Salem has displaced a family of 11. Fox 8 reporting that the fire started from a stove top burner. Investigators estimate the damage to the two story home at $100,000 dollars. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

President Obama is scheduled to deliver a speech from the State Department highlighting his administration's revised policies toward the changing political climate sweeping across the Middle East and North Africa. The President will pledge additional ‘money’ to Egypt and Tunisia. CNN

We talked about this story yesterday: A Wisconsin man, Don Gorske, consumed his 25,000th Big Mac on Tuesday. A friend of mine (Paul) wrote back on Facebook… "I just pulled up the story ... took him 39 years, which means he ate on average 1.75 Big Macs per day! Or…2 per day on the weekdays and one on both Sat and Sun. The other thing that struck me was that his wife is a nurse."


JUST TWO DAYS AWAY FROM WHAT ONE CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATION FROM CALIFORNIA SAYS IS THE END OF THE WORLD.  Have you seen the Judgment Day billboards and mobile signs? Well, the group behind the message, Family Station Worldwide (headquartered in Oakland, California) is a non-profit organization headed by Harold Camping. Camping and his group say that Judgment Day will happen this Saturday, May 21, 2011.  FYI: Camping had predicted that the world would end back in 1994.

Old Salem is celebrating the 220th anniversary of George Washington’s visit to Salem through July. This Saturday (May 21) hands-on activities for the entire family including food, 18th century dancing and a puppet show on the life of Betsy Ross. And yes, George Washington will be at Salem offering speeches and interacting with visitors.
