(TRAFFIC) Watch your speed…Both directions of Highway 52 coming into downtown Winston-Salem.  The speed limit has been reduced from 55 mph to 45mph.


Breaking News: One person was airlifted to Baptist Hospital this morning after a multi-car accident on Highway 47 near Central Davidson High School. The accident happened at the intersection of Highway 47 and Beck's Church Road in Davidson County. Officials telling FOX 8 that a car crossed the center line and struck two cars head-on. The Lexington Dispatch reporting that at least 6 people needed medical attention. One victim suffered a broken leg and was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center via AirCare. Another victim was taken to Baptist via ground transportation.

An eighth grader at Graham Middle School died after collapsing during gym class on Wednesday. Geremy Carter suddenly collapsed after he was hit in the leg by a basketball. Carter was transported to Alamance Regional Medical Center, where he died. The 8th grader had some kind of medical condition, but Carter’s friends told Fox 8 that they did not know it was that serious.  Counselors are available for students today at Graham Middle School.

Public pools in Greensboro and Winston-Salem are expected to open at noon on Saturday.  Winston-Salem City pools will once again use a wristband system where ALL children under 4-feet-tall will be required to take a swimming test before they are allowed in the pool. Garner, NC will have to get a new sign at the city limits…“Home of Scotty McCreery…American Idol winner”.  The 17 year old student and former grocery bagger won the competition last night over Lauren Alaina. Both Scotty and Lauren are country music singers. After the announcement Scotty said...'I GOTTA THANK THE LORD FIRST. HE GOT ME HERE'. More than 122 million votes were cast by viewers on Tuesday night to determine this year's winner.  

Expect new information on car stickers at the dealership starting late next year. The labels will continue to feature the average miles per gallon a vehicle gets and will also show the average savings or expenditure on fuel over five years. The Transportation Department says the new labels will us choose cars with better fuel economy.

The latest round of storms that struck Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas over the past two days and nights have claimed 16 lives.  Residents of Joplin, Missouri continue to pick up the pieces and count their blessings after Sunday’s deadly tornado killed at least 125 people. An estimated 750 people have been treated at area hospitals. At least 1,500 people are still unaccounted for in Joplin. The Joplin tornado was the deadliest single U.S. tornado incident since modern record-keeping began 61 years ago.


NO travel to Yemen. That’s the latest warning from the State Department who is also warning Americans in Yemen to leave citing "terrorist activities and civil unrest."
