Deadly helicopter crash in eastern Afghanistan has claimed the lives of 30 US military personnel, including 22 Navy SEALs. The SEALS were on their way to assist an Army Rangers unit pinned down by enemy fire early Saturday morning.  The crash involved the highest number of US fatalities in a single day since the beginning of the war in Afghanistan in 2001. FYI: The majority of the SEALs killed, belonged to the same covert unit that conducted the May raid that killed Osama bin Laden. Chris Campbell of Jacksonville, NC was killed in the crash. "His family is asking for your prayers."

An atheist group was won approval to host a god-less festival at Fort Bragg next year. The Christian Post reports that the ‘godless’ festival "Rock Beyond Belief" will featuring music, speeches and "godless" literature. The atheist group has protested that the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's "Rock the Fort" evangelistic event last year was allowed to happen on base. RnR

Praise: A church in High Point finally has a new place to worship after losing its sanctuary to a fire more than five years ago. Fox 8 reporting that members of Cloverdale Church of the Living God held a special dedication ceremony yesterday at their new location…about two miles away from the old sanctuary on Surrett Drive.

New survey from Visa finding that kids in the US are ‘receiving’ an average of $2.60 per tooth from the Tooth Fairy…down from $3 dollars last year.  BTW: 90 percent of U.S. children under the age of 12 receive money from the Tooth Fairy.  http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2011/07/26/Survey-Tooth-fairy-leaving-less-money/UPI-44011311665400/#ixzz1U9qbjJ8n

What? A 2-month-old infant was taken to the hospital after being locked in a hot car over the weekend in Asheville. The Citizen-Times of Asheville reports that a passer-by noticed an infant inside a car about 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon…then flagged down a fire truck. Firefighters broke a window in the car to rescue the infant. The outside temperature was about 85 degrees.  The mother arrived about 10 minutes later. The 29-year-old mother (Jennifer Knox) said that she had locked her keys in the car and couldn't reach her husband on a cell phone, so she walked to the restaurant where he works to get keys. Social workers will meet with Knox…who was charged with child abuse.

Global markets continue to have a negative reaction to Friday's first-ever downgrade of the US credit rating by the Standard & Poors rating agency.  The downgrade signals that the S&P believes U.S. government bonds are now a riskier investment. Another possible US downgrade is possible within six months.  U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says the S&P used "terrible judgment" when it downgraded the U.S. credit rating last week from the top triple-A grade. http://www.voanews.com/english/news/asia/Major-Asian-Markets-Lower-After-SP-Downgrade-of-US-Credit-Rating-127128338.html

Federal Budget vs. Household Budget: How Do They Compare? Dave Ramsey thought it'd be fun to turn the astronomical national debt figures into something we can understand a little better — like a household budget. http://www.daveramsey.com/article/federal-budget-vs-household-budget-how-do-they-compare/lifeandmoney_budgeting

Public school teachers in the United States spent more than $1.33 billion dollars (or an average of $500 dollars) a year on school supplies for their own classrooms.
FREE School Supplies for Teachers in Guildford County!   "The Teacher Supply Warehouse" on Yanceyville Street in Greensboro has school supplies for teachers. You can donate items as well.  Here is a link to more info: http://www.guilfordeducationalliance.org/support/teacher-warehouse.phps

FYI: Teachers in Forsyth County will (soon) have a similar program offering FREE school supplies to take advantage of as well!  Here is the deal…
The Educator Warehouse is located at Diggs-Latham Elementary School off Peters Creek Parkway. There will be a website to make an appointment, up to 40 teachers a day. Each teacher gets 25 points per quarter. You can spend all 25 points at once, or split up your points into multiple visits during the quarter. This is a partnership with Forsyth Education Partnership and WS/FCS Council of PTAs (County PTA). While donations have been given, set up and are ready... there are still a lot of details to work out to make this run smoothly. It will open as soon as possible. This has been two years in the making and was inspired from Greensboro's model. (The proposed hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30-6:30. Volunteers will be working during these hours to help the teachers.) More details soon…
