RECALL: At least three major grocery store chains mainly in the southeast have recalled some of their ground beef because of E. coli contamination.  The Department of Agriculture announcing that National Beef Packaging Company (Kansas) is recalling more than 60,000 pounds of ground beef. The ground beef could have been sent to Walmart stores and Sam’s clubs in North Carolina,  More details to follow.

Power is back on for several thousand residents in Forsyth County after a severe storm rolled through the Triad around suppertime on Sunday. The storm prompted a tornado warning for Forsyth County. There were several sightings of funnel clouds in Forsyth County between 6 and 7pm last night. Downed trees were reported in northern Forsyth and southern Stokes counties.


A memorial prayer service will be held this morning before the re-opening of the Indiana State Fair, after straight-line winds toppled a concert stage at the Fairgrounds over the weekend…killing five and injuring dozens more. The country duo Sugarland was just minutes from performing when the stage collapsed just before 9pm Saturday night. (CNN, NBC, FOX)

The senior pastor at Calvary Baptist Church (Al Gilbert) is leaving Winston-Salem for Atlanta. Pastor Gilbert is taking a job with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in Atlanta.  He will be leaving in September. Sleep tight???   More bedbugs have been detected in a handful of dorms at Wake Forest University. According to the Winston-Salem Journal, the university used a canine search team last week to check dorms on campus before students arrive for the fall semester. The canine teams did find evidence of bedbugs in a very small number of rooms. The rooms were ‘cleansed’ using a high-heat treatment (turning up the heat to at least 120 degrees for a specific amount of time) is considered by pest-control experts to be 100% effective.

According to new research, you need to add the extra step of ‘rubbing’ your soft contact lenses (along with the ‘no rub’ multi-purpose solution) to more effectively remove bacteria, yeast, and mold cells from your lenses. A Jacksonville woman is frantically trying to find the couple who bought a suitcase from her at a recent yard sale, because the suitcase contained sentimental items belonging to her husband, who was killed in Iraq. The Daily News of Jacksonville reported that Lindsay Whitehouse sold a Ricardo brand suitcase on Aug. 6 at a yard sale. Lindsey later realized that the suitcase contained awards, memorial items and photographs belonging to her husband, Marine Staff Sgt. Jason Whitehouse who was killed in Iraq back in 2007.  Anyone with information can call Whitehouse at 910-546-1307
