‘Skimming devices’ were found on two standalone ATMs in Thomasville on Monday…and cyber thieves are likely stealing your personal banking information.  Investigators believe the skimmers were placed on two ATM machines sometime last Friday and remained there over the weekend.  The Thomasville Times reporting that ‘skimmers’ were found on the Cash Points at Midway Plaza (off National Highway) and the Cash Points on West Main Street across from the Thomasville Post Office . NO arrests have been made in the case.

Some tips: Thieves normally target standalone ATMs for skimming.  Be aware of anything that is raised off the machine itself, like wires protruding from the ATM machine. Skimming devices are usually put on top of the real ATM card reader, allowing the skimmer devise to read your personal info (like PIN numbers) while the ATM reads it. http://www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-how-to-spot-a-skimming-atm-20110817,0,504812.story

Congratulations to Jayne Grubbs (science teacher at Caleb’s Creek Elementary in Kernersville) and Heather King (math and French teacher at West Forsyth) who were awarded the ‘Marcellus Waddill Excellence in Teaching’ Award (from Wake Forest University) on Wednesday. (www.journalnow.com)

A Virginia couple plans to get married at a Carowinds this weekend.  WCNC reports the couple plans to say "I do" on the steps of The Intimidator Roller coaster on Saturday, then take a ride on the roller coaster with family and friends. BTW: The couple got engaged on the Intimidator (the tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster in the southeast) last August and they want their wedding to be fun and memorable.  http://www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-story-nc-coaster-intimidator-carowinds-wedding-110817,0,2122586.story

Just a reminder: Second Harvest Food Bank needs your help.  Food supplies are critically low. You can drop-off non-perishable food items TODAY to help out Second Harvest Food Bank at any Goodwill Retail stores, BB&T bank branch locations and Lowe's Food locations. www.hungernwnc.org/about-us/you-can-too.html

Did you know: For every ‘dollar’ donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank, they can distribute $12 dollars worth of food (or the equivalent of 7 nutritious meals).  Second Harvest serves about 400 agencies in 18 counties right here in our area.  One in six people in America do NOT have enough food to eat. The need is even greater in the Triad…

Kids that attend the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of High Point will get a chance to do some ‘back–to-school shopping’ this afternoon from school supplies collected during the recent “Stuff the Bus” campaign. Items including notebooks, binders, pencils, hand sanitizer even backpacks will be distributed to clubbers (kids)…according to their grade.  BTW: Many of these kids come from low-income families, that are having a tough time with the current economy.

A record number of students will be taking classes at Forsyth Tech.  Fall enrollment is already at 11,000 students…that’s up 7 percent from last year and a 20 percent increase compared to 2009.  BTW: One of the many reasons that Community colleges are attractive. The cost. One credit hour at Forsyth Tech costs around $66.00. http://www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-forsyth-tech-sees-big-enrollment-jump-for-second-year-20110817,0,7274226.story
