Thousands still without power after an early winter storm that hit parts of the Midwest late last week. The St. Louis area was hardest hit by power outages. There were 13 fatalities associated with the snow storm that covered areas from Texas to Michigan. (CNN)

NASA is planning its first nighttime launch with the space shuttle Discovery on Thursday. Astronauts are prepping for their 12-day mission to the international space station. (AP)

According to the latest Lundberg survey: Gasoline prices up 4 cents nationwide. (AP)

Wake Forest will play Louisville in the Fed-Ex Orange Bowl on January 2 in Miami. Wake beat Georgia Tech on Saturday in the ACC Championship 9-6.

***Ohio State will play Florida in college football's championship game.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is calling for tougher government restrictions on advertising to teens and children. The academy recommends limiting television ads to 12 minutes per hour and banning commercials promoting junk food and fast food in programs for young children. The academy also suggests greater control of product "tie-ins" between movies and fast food restaurants. Big business suggesting that restrictions begin at home.Stats in the latest issue of the journal "Pediatrics" say that children are bombarded with 40,000 television commercials a year and 3,000 each day. (AP)Talk about ‘Bah Humbug’…in Reidsville, the city’s Christmas tree was damaged by vandals over the weekend. The Grinches’ stole the star from atop the tree. Police say the vandals used the artificial tree's limbs to climb 17 feet to the top to get the ornament. Damage to the tree was estimated at 2 thousand dollars. (WFMY 2 news)
