About 50 cases of chicken pox have been reported at three elementary schools in Yadkin County. A first grader recovering from chicken pox died last week though it was unclear whether the child's death was the result of the illness.

Kati Kim and her two young daughters (ages 4 and 7 months) were spotted by helicopter…waving an umbrella and motioning for help. Kim's husband James is still missing…after he left the family's snowbound car Saturday morning to go for help. The typhoon believed to have fatally wounded more than a thousand people in the Philippines has weakened to a tropical storm over Vietnam.
At least 46 people died when the storm slammed into Vietnam's southern coast on Monday. Officials say more than 300 people have been injured and thousands of houses have been destroyed. (CNN)
A Statesville man has died from injuries he received during a tornado that struck his mobile home 3 weeks ago. That same storm system destroyed the tiny town of Riegelwood in the southeastern part of the state. (wsjsnews)

RF Micro Devices of Greensboro says it's selling some of its Bluetooth assets to Qualcomm for $39-million dollars in cash. RF Micro Devices makes chips for cell phones and wireless networking devices. (wfmynews 2)

Christmas officially begins at the state Capital this evening with Governor Easley and his wife, Mary, light the state Christmas tree. Festivities will begin around 5 p.m in Raleigh. (
