Two shark attacks in two days along the NC Coast…
Witnesses on North Topsail Beach said they saw several sharks in the water at the time of the attack on Wednesday. 14 year old Matthew Baker, of Hickory, was treated and released after suffering a bite on his right calf. On Tuesday…A 30-year-old woman was attacked at Atlantic Beach.

A Georgia food production plant that makes the canned chili sauce is suspected in a botulism outbreak. Four people have been hospitalized with botulism. The FDA warning applies to 10-ounce cans of hot dog chili sauce…brands including Castleberry's, Austex and Kroger house brands. "best by" dates from April 30, 2009, through May 22, 2009

Toy maker Hasbro is recalling about 1 million ‘Easy Bake Ovens’
because of reports that children are getting their fingers caught in the ovens’ opening causing a risk of being burned. This is the second recall of the product in less than a year. One 5-year-old child was so badly burned that her finger was partially amputated. The affected model number is 65805.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has 249 reports of children getting their hands or fingers caught in the oven's opening.The product was sold at retailers including Toys 'R' Us, Wal-Mart, Target, KB Toys, and others from May 2006 through July 2007 for about $25. http://www.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=606559

The Davidson County Health Department is sponsoring a rabies clinic on Saturday (July 21) from 2 to 4 p.m. at Ledford High School.North Carolina law requires that all dogs and cats over 4 months of age be vaccinated against rabies. They can be vaccinated as young as three months of age. Owners not complying with this law could be fined $100 dollars per day. (The Dispatch) The cost is $5 dollars per vaccination at the clinic.

A two day bridal show in the Twin City is more than just for fashion…

The Filing Deadline for potential candidates to run for office ends at noon today. Ruth Huneycutt, director of Davidson County’s board of elections, says the two-week period is two weeks shorter than the four weeks the state usually allows, but the state Legislature made changes to shorten the filing period.Voters have until Oct. 12 to register for the November election, but the state Legislature has been debating a bill allowing voters to register and vote on the same day. Author J.K. Rowling the writer of the "Harry Potter" books is not very happy with all of the ‘leaks’ regarding the final installment of the Potter series. The final book 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ will hit store shelves at midnight tonight…but multiple ‘leaks’ about the book have popped up on the Internet. The Chick-Fil-A…Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America is traveling North to South this week…from Maine to Miami. Now in its 13th year, the ride has logged more than 45,000 miles and donated more than $9 million to charity.
