The National Weather Service has issued a ‘Wind Advisory’ late tonight through noon Wednesday for Central NC. Included in the Wind Advisory: Davie, Rowan, Surry and Wilkes counties.

After nearly 44 years protecting Greensboro, Fire Chief Johnny Teeters announced Monday that he will retire at the end of the year.

Starting today, a portion of Church Street in Greensboro will be closed for most of the year as crews work to replace a bridge. Church Street between Cornwallis Drive and Wendover Avenue will be closed from 7am to 7pm. The work is expected to continue until December.

25 people were killed earlier today when a bus plunged off an icy road adding to the problems from some of the worst winter weather to hit parts of China in decades. The dangerous winter storms are blamed for at least 50 deaths, power outages and buildings collapsing. The storms also stranded travelers, among them hundreds of thousands of migrant workers heading home for the Chinese New Year which begins February 7th. An opposition leader in Kenya has been shot to death outside his home.The lawmaker was a member of the Orange Democratic Movement. The OMD has accused the incumbent president of rigging last month’s election results.The post-election violence in Kenya has been blamed for nearly 700 deaths…while displaced more than 250-thousand people from their homes.

A bird flu outbreak in India continues to spread. Health officials in West Bengal said that the H5N1 virus or bird flu spread to new areas of the state over the weekend. More than 1.5 million birds have already been destroyed. http://www.healthday.com/Article.asp?AID=612113

Christian artist and worship leader Israel Haughton and New Breed will perform at the Grammys during a special Gospel segment. Israel will be on stage with Aretha Franklin, Mary J Blige, the Clark Sisters and Trin-I-Tee 5:7. Israel and New Breed are up for two GRAMMY Award nominations.
