Time is running out for thousands of sixth-graders around the state to get the state required Tdap booster shot…or face suspension. Today is the deadline for six grade students in the Guilford County Schools to receive the Tdap booster. The Tdap booster shot protects against tetanus, diptheria and pertussis (or whooping cough).
The Guilford County Health Department is providing FREE Tdap vaccinations today and Friday at the High Point location.

FYI: According to North Carolina law, children who are entering the sixth grade in public school on or after Aug. 1, 2008 or who are 12 years of age on or after Aug. 1, 2008, must have a Tdap booster shot if five or more years have passed since their last dose of the vaccine.

President Bush addressing the nation last night saying "our entire economy is in danger." The President urging Congress to approve his administration's $700 billion dollar Wall Street bailout proposal. Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama along with high level Congressional leaders have accepted an invitation to the White House to discuss the nation’s financial crisis later today.

Republican Presidential candidate John McCain has suspended his campaign to focus on his Senate duties and the US financial crisis. McCain is pushing to postpone tomorrow night’s Presidential debate with Barack Obama. Senator Obama doesn't like the idea and says the American public needs to hear from both candidates now more than ever.

Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College has cancelled classes through Sunday because of the gas shortage that has hit the Eastern portion of the US.

Governor Mike Easley assuring that that more gasoline is heading to the fuel-starved region…saying that oil companies are aware of the gas shortage in the Southeast and are working to transfer fuel into North Carolina. Pipelines that were damaged during Hurricane Ike are being refilled. The shortage is temporary and should improve over the next day or two.
