The state Attorney General’s office handed down subpoenas yesterday to seven gas stations including one in High Point. All pending an investigation into possible price gouging at the gas pumps in advance of Hurricane Ike last Friday. With all of the financial ‘fallout’ in the news…like Merrill Lynch has agreed to a buyout offer from Bank of America. Lehman Brothers is filing for Chapter 11. And insurance giant AIG seeking a bail-out from the Federal Reserve. If you are like me, there are lots of questions.

It will cost taxpayers at least $300,000 to change the road signs that direct drivers onto the Urban Loop and Interstate 40 through Greensboro. Last week, the DOT announced it will soon eliminate Business 40 through Greensboro and redirect I-40 traffic back to its original route. Once the changes are made late this fall, the loop will no longer be I-40 at any point. Instead, the loop will be Interstate 73 and Interstate 840. Greensboro News and Record
