Today is Constitution Day.
There is a cool essay contest for students in grades 9 thru 12…with close to $200,000 dollars in prizes and a trip to Washington, DC up for grabs. Contest deadline: December 01, 2008

Don’t worry…it’s just a test. TV stations around North Carolina will be performing a digital transmission test this evening between 6 and 6:30pm. If you get your TV signal by way of cable or satellite, you won’t be affected. All TV stations will switch from analog to digital transmission in February 2009. http://www.dtv2009.gov/

The cost of vehicle inspections is going up…and what, no sticker? The DMV will synchronize inspections and registration starting November 1st…a month later than expected. The cost of a safety inspection will go up to $13.60. http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/

The House voted late last night to approve limited offshore drilling off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Under the House Bill: Oil and gas drilling can only happen 50 or more miles out to sea and only if a state agrees to energy development off its shore. Democratic leaders called it a step toward energy independence, but Republicans labeled it as an election year "sham". A new FREE health clinic will be available on Wednesdays in Forsyth County. Medical students from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine will be volunteering at the FREE medical clinic in the Community Care Center on New Walkertown Road. The goal of the DEAC Clinic (or the Delivering Equal Access to Care) – is to provide free medical care for patients who are not eligible for Medicare, Medicaid or the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, and whose income falls below 200% of the federal poverty level. The Federal Reserve will bail out insurance giant AIG. Under the deal, the Federal Reserve will provide a two-year, $85 billion dollar emergency loan to AIG. Yes, there is such a thing as a toilet-paper researcher.
