THE GOVERNOR OF ILLINOIS HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY BY FEDERAL AGENTS. Governor Rod Blegojevich (bluh-GOY-a-vich) and an aide are facing federal corruption charges. A statement by the U.S. Attorney in the case says the governor is accused of, among other things, conspiring to obtain personal financial gain in the naming of a successor to Barack Obama’s Senate seat. He’s also accused of trying to obtain campaign contributions in exchange for official actions.
The 51-year old Blegojevich and his 49-year old aide were each charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and solicitation of bribery.
