Two small Christian colleges are merging into one. Piedmont Baptist College in Winston-Salem and Atlantic Baptist Bible College of Chester, Va., will merge in January. Students on Atlantic's campus will move to North Carolina and Atlantic's property will be sold to create an endowment and scholarship at Piedmont. http://www.news-record.com/content/2008/12/11/article/two_small_church_colleges_to_merge

Office Depot will close 112 underperforming retail stores in North America during the next three months. 8 stores will be closed in the South. Office Depot has six Triad ocations.

State agencies should plan for additional spending cuts. That’s the word from Raleigh. Governor Easley has ordered all state departments and other institutions to develop proposals on how they will reduce spending by up to 7%. At least 43 states are facing shortfalls in their budgets for this year and/or next year.

Authorities in Winston-Salem are trying to determine what caused the death of a man who crashed his van into a tree in the Target parking lot last night. Authorities say that John Lord's van was traveling around 40 MPH at the time of the crash.

A POLICE OFFICER HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF A TEENAGED BOY THAT TRIGGERED NATIONWIDE RIOTS IN GREECE. Warning shots were fired when a patrol car was surrounded by gang members. A stray bullet ricocheted and hit one of the gang members.
