Back in the USA: The two journalists who were jailed in North Korea after illegally crossing the border with China, landed in California earlier this morning. Laura Ling and Euna Lee were working on a story about North Korean refugees for U.S.-based Current TV, a news outlet co-founded by former VP Al Gore. http://www.voanews.com/english/2009-08-05-voa16.cfm

Looks like the Senate will extend the "cash-for-clunkers" program by Friday. The House has already approved a $2 billion dollar extension. Cash for Clunkers program offers car buyers rebates of up to $4,500 for trading in their gas-guzzlers for new, higher-mileage models.

Greensboro police are still investigating the fatal shooting of a 16 year old at an apartment complex yesterday. 16-year-old Breyon Shon Deese, was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon at the Hickory Trails Apartment Complex in Greensboro.

Police are still trying to determine why a lone gunman opened fire at an LA Fitness gym outside Pittsburgh last night. At least four people (including the gunman) were killed. Close to a dozen others wounded. The shooting victims arrived at the three major hospitals in the area. Protect the pig…wash your hands? Hand washing stations at the Dixie Classic Fair have been a fixture in the past to protect fairgoers from animal-borne illnesses such as E. coli. Officials with the Department of Agriculture worry that if pigs are infected with swine flu, it could threaten the state's $1.9 billion dollar pork industry. Officials are also saying that if you have flu-like symptoms stay away from any animal exhibits (and the Gazebo?). The Dixie Classic Fair in Winston-Salem runs October 2-11. The NFL is currently developing a ‘game day’ policy banning Twitter by all NFL personnel. The policy is expected to be completed in the next couple weeks. The NFL has an existing policy banning the use of cell phones, computers, PDAs and other electronic devices by players, coaches and other team personnel during games on the sidelines, in the locker rooms and in the coaches' booths in press boxes.
