The latest storm in the Atlantic will likely effect Florida, even North Carolina, by Wednesday. Ernesto weakened dramatically on Sunday…being downgraded to a tropical storm. Ernesto will likely gain strength as it nears Cuba. Hurricane watches have been posted across South Florida and the Florida Keys. (weather.com)

Because of Tropical Storm Ernesto: NASA officials will have to decide whether or not to keep the space shuttle Atlantis on the launch pad for a scheduled liftoff Tuesday afternoon. (AP)

President Bush will return to Mississippi and Louisiana today to discuss the ongoing recovery from the deadly storm that struck the Gulf one year ago.

Comair Flight 51-91 crashed about half a mile past the end of the runway shortly after takeoff Sunday morning in Kentucky. There was one survivor. The National Transportation Safety Board said the evidence so far shows that the Comair jet that crashed…took off from the wrong runway. (usa radio news)

While researchers have long shown that tall people earn more than shorter people – a new study saying that tall people are just smarter.
"As early as age three -- before schooling has had a chance to play a role -- and throughout childhood, taller children perform significantly better on cognitive tests," The findings were based primarily on two British studies that followed children born in 1958 and 1970, respectively, through adulthood and a U.S. study on height and occupational choice.

Will MacKenzie, a former hammock salesman who grew up in North Carolina, earned his first PGA tour win at the Reno-Tahoe Open.
MacKenzie is a Greenville native who gave up golf for a while…but he returned to golf after seeing his boyhood idol, the late Payne Stewart, win the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst.
